Day Two of the 11U Futures Invitational Wraps Up

Canes Baseball 5, Elite Squad 2


Canes Baseball earned its first win at the 2019 USA Baseball Futures Invitational on Friday with a 5-2 victory over Elite Squad at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Canes Baseball jumped out to an early lead after William Radford hit an RBI-single to right field in the bottom of the first. Elite Squad answered in the top of the third inning after Spencer Krasner hit brought home a run with a single through the right side. The Canes regained the lead in the bottom of the third after Sawyer Cannon plated a run with a double. Cannon drove in two more runs with his second double of the afternoon to extend the Canes' lead to 4-2 in the fifth. Kyle Wenckus brought home the final run of the game with an RBI-single to give Canes Baseball a 5-2 win.
Nolan Winfield (1-0) earned the win for Canes Baseball after pitching 6.0 innings and recording five strikeouts. Lorenzo Laurel (0-1) suffered the loss in relief after allowing a run in one inning on the mound.
Canes Baseball moved to 1-1 Futures Invitational, while Elite Squad dropped to 1-1 through two days of play.

Scorpions Team Easton 2, San Diego Show 0


Scorpions Team Easton scored two runs in the sixth inning to best San Diego Show 2-0 on the second day of the Futures Invitational at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
The pitching was stout through five innings as neither team was able to bring home a run. Scorpions Team Easton's Ethan Partain drew a walk in the bottom of the sixth plate the first run of the game. Derek Ordaz added the second run two batters later with an RBI-single to third. San Diego Show loaded the bases in the seventh but was unable to bring home a run to end the game.
Carlos Sepulveda (1-0) logged the win for Scorpions Team Easton after throwing 5.1 innings with three strikeouts. Clayton Crosby earned his first save of the tournament after forcing a groundout to end the game. Andrew Langer was given the loss after allowing the game's two runs in five innings.
Scorpions Team Easton improved to 1-1, while San Diego Show fell to 1-1 at the Futures Invitational.

Banditos Black 2, SBA Futures 1


Banditos Black needed extra innings to earn a walk-off win over SBA Futures, 2-1, on Friday at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Banditos Black struck first after Evan Lopez hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. SBA Futures fought back with an RBI-single of their own in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at one all.
Kalub Ramirez stepped to the plate with one out in the top of the ninth and hit a line drive to center to plate the game-winning run as Banditos Black earned a hard-fought 1-0 win.
Victor Garcia (1-0) earned the win for Banditos Black, logging two strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched. Chase Kiker was tagged with the loss, despite allowing just one run on five hits in 7.1 innings on the mound.
Banditos Black remain perfect at the Futures Invitational with a 2-0 record, as SBA Futures fell to 0-2.

Top Tier Americans 5, KC Crusaders 4


Top Tier Americans fell behind early but battled back to defeat KC Crusaders, 5-4, at the 11U Futures Invitational on Friday at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
KC Crusaders wasted no time getting on the board as Drew Yockey knocked in a pair of runners with an RBI single up the middle, to put the KC Crusaders ahead 2-0 after one. The Crusaders took a 4-0 lead after a two-RBI double by Beckym Marlow in the bottom of the second.
Top Tier Americans battled back in the third, scoring three runs on two walks, a single, and a hit-by-pitch to cut the deficit to 4-3. Top Tier Americans tied the game in the fourth inning before scoring the go-ahead in the sixth on a fielder's choice.
Top Tier Americans improved to 2-0 in the tournament, while KC Crusaders drop to 0-2.

Wilson Sandlot 1, I AM Baseball 0


Wilson Sandlot outlasted I AM Baseball in a pitcher's duel to earn a 1-0 win on the second day of the Futures Invitational at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Wilson Sandlot broke the scoreless streak in the home half of the sixth when Gio Liburdi got on base with a single to left field. In the next at-bat, Liburdi attempted to steal second and would capitalize on a pair of throwing errors to score the go-ahead run.
Wilson Baseball's Drew Schnabel (1-0) earned the win after recording a complete-game shutout that included five strikeouts while allowing just three hits. I AM Baseball's starting pitcher Aquiles Arzeno finished the game with 5.0 innings including eight strikeouts, while only giving up one hit. Donovan Thiery (0-1) was tabbed with the loss after giving up the unearned run.
Both teams moved to 1-1 in the tournament.

Twelve Baseball 12, Stars Baseball Camp 5


The offense was firing on all cylinders for Twelve Baseball as they defeated Stars Baseball Club, 12-5, on Friday at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Stars Baseball Camps jumped out to an early lead after scoring a run in each of the first three innings. Twelve Baseball added runs in the first and third innings, before tying the game at three in the top of the fourth on a passed ball.
Clay Mitchell put Twelve Baseball ahead 5-3 with a hit a two-RBI triple to right field in the bottom of the fifth. Twelve Baseball kept the offense rolling in the sixth inning, plating seven runs on eight hits and a walk. Stars Baseball Camp added a pair of runs in the bottom half of the six but were unable to score in the seventh as Twelve Baseball picked up its first win of the tournament.
Landon Carrillo (1-0) earned the win on the mound, while Garrett Camp (0-1) suffered the loss in relief for Stars Baseball Camp.

MVP Hustle 7, FCA Blueclaws 4


MVP Hustle used a three-run third inning to earn a come-from-behind win over FCA Blueclaws, 7-4, on Friday at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
The FCA Blueclaws jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the first after John Matuson hit an RBI-single and Tripp Hannah stole home. MVP Hustle responded with a run in the home half of the first before Alexander Mercurius tied the game up with a line drive up the middle. MVP Hustle took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the third after scoring three runs on a pair of singles and a fielder's choice. The FCA Blueclaws cut the lead to 5-4 after Brennan Bachtell Jr. scored on a fielder's choice and Hannah hit an RBI-single to center field.
MVP Hustle capitalized on an FCA Blueclaws error in the fourth to score a run before Gavin Fien hit an RBI-triple in the next at-bat to push the lead to 7-4.
Miles Scott (1-0) picked up the win for MVP Hustle after collecting three strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Tyler Ellis suffered the loss after allowing seven runs and 10 hits in the game.
The win improved MVP Hustle's record to 2-0 on the tournament, while FCA Blueclaws fell to 1-1.
