The National Team Championships North Carolina kicked off on Tuesday, June 13, with the 17U age group at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Check out all the action from day one pool play.
TEXAS TWELVE 8, 3N2 STICKS BASEBALL 17U/WHITE SOX SCOUT TEAM 5
Braylon Payne went 3-for-4 with three runs scored to help lead Texas Twelve (1-0) past 3n2 Sticks (0-1), 8-5, in eight innings.
The scoring began for 3n2 Sticks with three runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI sac fly, a single from Owen Coil, and a Texas Twelve error. Brenton Clark’s RBI single tacked on one more in the second to make it 4-0. Texas Twelve got on the board thanks to a 3n2 Sticks error in the fourth, and then an RBI groundout by Marco Gonzales in the fifth cut its deficit in half. A run-scoring triple by Payne followed by Caden Miller’s RBI single in the sixth knotted the score at 4-4. In the eighth inning Texas Twelve broke the game open, scoring four runs on a combination of a single, a bases-loaded walk, and a double to earn the comeback victory.
Payne led Texas Twelve with three hits and tallied two RBIs, including a triple which changed the game’s momentum. Peyton Reynolds pitched 4.0 innings with no earned runs, and four strikeouts to help lead the Texas Twelve past 3n2 Sticks. Christian Bobzin started strong for 3n2 Sticks, pitching 3.0 scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
3n2 Sticks 17U Baseball/White Sox Scout Team will take on East Cobb Astros on Field 2, while Texas Twelve will take on the Elite Squad Baseball at Coleman Field. EAST COBB ASTROS 1, ELITE SQUAD 0
Owen Hall pitched lights-out for East Cobb Astros (1-0), tossing a complete game to lead his team in a 1-0 victory over Elite Squad (0-1) on Tuesday morning in the opening round of the 17U National Team Championships in North Carolina.
The lone run of the game came in the second inning off the bat of Erik Parker, who hit a line drive to center and drove in Connor Shouse from second. Shouse reached base off a leadoff double to center field earlier in the inning.
Hall pitched seven strong innings for East Cobb, throwing a complete game and conceding only one hit while racking up eight strikeouts. Parker went 1-for-2 and batted in the only run of the contest for the Astros. Elite Squad pitcher Donovan Rabiei also showed out on the mound, pitching a three-hit ball game and allowing only one run to come across.
East Cobb Astros will face 3n2 Sticks Baseball 17U Brewster/White Sox Scout Team at 1:15 p.m. on Field 2 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary. DULINS DODGERS PRIME GODWIN 9, TOP TIER SELECT 0
Kyle Branch went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and led Dulins Dodgers (1-0) to a 9-0 victory over Top Tier Select (0-1) in the opening game of pool play of the 17U 2023 National Team Championships in North Carolina.
Dulins Dodgers struck first to take the lead 1-0 due to a Top Tier Select fielding error. In the second, an RBI single from Branch would bring in Kendyl Johnson to extend the lead 2-0. Dulins Dodgers would rally to score two more runs on two singles to lead 4-0 going into the third inning. With bases loaded in the fifth, a passed ball and batter walked in would add insurance runs for Dulins Dodgers to make it 6-0. With runners on first and third, Michael Catalano grounded out into a fielder’s choice to score Brooks Sartain and extend their team’s lead to 7-0. Two more RBI singles in the seventh rounded out the Dulins Dodgers scoring to make it 9-0.
Wyatt Sanford also led the Dulins Dodgers offense with a 2-for-4 day with two RBIs. Sartain went 1-for-3 with two walks and two stolen bases. On the mound, Landon Karrh was credited the win, going 6.1 innings with one strikeout. ·
For Top Tier Select, Jayden Harriel went 2-for-2, recording two hits and a walk, while Cameron Uzzillia went 1-for-2 with a double. Tomas Valincius went on the pitch two innings with five strikeouts.

EAST COAST SOX SCOUT 3, EXPOSURE 17U NATIONAL 1
John Robicheaux went 1-for-2 with two RBIs as East Coast Sox (1-0) defeated Exposure National (0-1), 3-1, in the first game of pool play at the 17U National Team Championships in North Carolina.
The Sox started the day with three singles in the first inning, before a fielding error by Exposure scored its first run. Robicheaux knocked in an RBI single in the fourth to plate two more runs and extend the lead to 3-0. Walker Hooks provided a steady performance on the mound for East Coast, striking out two and allowing no runs over five innings pitched. Matthew Cash threw the final two innings and punched out three batters. Exposure got one run back in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI single by Landis Davila that made it 3-1, but the Sox defense forced a fly out to center to record the final out.
Drey Barrett and Tanner Waldrop each went 2-for-3 with two singles to lead the Sox offense, while Gatlin Pitts added a double for East Coast. Starting pitcher Mateo Gray supplied four strikeouts in 3.2 innings of action for Exposure.

Reid Brosnan pitched 6.0 innings and picked up six strikeouts while only allowing two hits and no earned runs in the East Cobb Astros’ (2-0) 11-0 defeat of the 3n2 Sticks 17U Baseball/ White Sox Scout Team in their second pool play of the 17U National Team Championships in North Carolina.
East Cobb Astros scored all its runs in the fourth and the sixth innings, including four on a grand slam to end the game in run-rule fashion. The first run of the game was walked in and a sac fly from Jayden Novak brought in the second. A two-run single for Jaxon Walker put the Astros out in front by four after the fourth. The scoring picked up again in the sixth with hits from Erik Parker and Eli Hurt and a sac-fly from Novak. Yet, it was the game-ending, grand-slam from Sam Richardson that will go down in the history books in the Astros’ dominant performance.
Richarson’s walk off grand slam earned him his first hit of the day, but picked up four RBIs and one run scored, while Parker and Eli Hurt both went 2-for-2 with a combined three RBIs and two walks for East Cobb. Owen Coil went 2-for-2 and was the only player on the Astros with any hits. Reid Brosnan pitched 6.0 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits while striking out six, while Eli Crecelius was saddled with the loss for the Sticks after allowing four earned runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Jason Bello went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead eXposure 17U National (1-1) to a 7-2 victory over Top Tier Select (0-2) in game two of pool play of the 17U 2023 National Team Championships in North Carolina.
With a single from Tomas Valincius, Top Tier got on the board in the first inning. eXposure responded in the bottom frame and with two men on, Bello tripled to right field to give his team the 2-1 advantage. In the third, back-to-back singles followed by a fielding error scored Lukas Buckner to extend the eXposure lead to 3-1. In the fifth, Top Tier added a run off two singles and a walk to cut its deficit to one. In the sixth, eXposure used a four-run surge on three hits to extend the lead to 7-2 and take the win over Top Tier.
Lucas Ramirez led the eXposure offense by going 2-for-3 with a double. Eli Evans was also stout at the plate, coming in in the sixth with a two-run RBI triple to contribute to eXposure’s victory. Joshua Castellini went 2-for-3 for Top Tier Select with two total bases, while Ryan Sloan struck out seven batters over five innings of work for Top Tier.
Both teams will wrap up pool play on Wednesday for day two action of the 17U National Team Championships in North Carolina. eXposure will face Dulins Dodgers Prime Godwin at 1:30 p.m. at Coleman Field, while Top Tier will meet East Coast Sox at 1:45 p.m. on Field 2.
**DULINS DODGERS 3, **EAST COAST SOX 2
Dulins Dodgers (2-0) defeated East Coast Sox (1-1), 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon thanks to a Zach Grigalis walk-off base knock in game two of pool play at the 17U Championships in North Carolina.
Dulins Dodgers scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth from a Brooks Sartain RBI single to plate Owen Lee after he led off the frame with a walk. With runners on the corners for Dulins Dodgers, Diego Josue Gonzalez capitalized on the moment and induced a sacrifice fly to score Wyatt Sanford and make it a 2-0 ball game. East Coast Sox answered in the fifth inning, scoring its first run off a RBI double by Matthew Cash to take advantage of a Brett Mosely triple. The Sox knotted things up at two apiece later that inning from a line drive single off the bat of Gatlin Pitts, scoring Cash. Grigalis delivered a walk-off double for the Dodgers in the seventh, driving in Gonzalez who drew a walk and landed on third due to an error and wild pitch.
Sanford compiled two hits on the day, going 2-for-3 and plating a run for the Dodgers. Gonzalez collected one RBI and scored a run for Dulins Dodgers. Michael Catalano pitched a clean 2.2 innings of baseball, striking out two in the matter and earning the win. Moseley shined for East Coast Sox, as his 3-for-3 day was highlighted by a triple to deep center field to score his team’s first run of the contest.
Dulins Dodgers will wrap up pool play Wednesday and square off against eXposure 17U National 1:30 p.m. at Coleman Field. Houston Tomlinson recorded five strikeouts for Texas Twelve (1-0-1) and Alejandro Ludeiro and Jose Lopez went 2-for-3 for Elite Squad (0-1-1), as the two teams ended in a 4-4 tie in the second session of pool play of the 17U National Team Championships in North Carolina.
Texas Twelve jumped out to a hot start in the first inning, plating two runs off of two hits as Nathan Hodge and Silva each recorded RBI singles to give their team an early 2-0 lead. Texas Twelve extended its lead to 3-0 in the second inning when Devin Nunez drove in Brock DeYoung with an RBI single to right field, then tacked on a fourth run in the fourth inning via an RBI groundout. Elite Squad rallied in the final two innings to end the game in a tie. The squad scored three runs in the sixth on a pair of run-scoring singles and bases-loaded walk, and brought the game-tying run across in the seventh when Michael Torres’ RBI double scored Ethan Puig from second.
Ludeiro and Lopez turned in multi-hit performances to contribute to Elite Squad’s eight hits on the day. Mason Jacob, Nathan Hodge, Silva, and Nunez tallied two hits apiece for Texas Twelve.

USA PRIME 3, ALPHA PRIME 0
USA Prime (1-0) starter Ethan Schiefelbein allowed one hit and struck out eight batters over five scoreless innings to lead Alpha Prime (0-1) to a 3-0 victory in the team’s first game of pool play at the 17U National Team Championships in North Carolina.
The first run of the day for Alpha Prime came in the second inning. After Terrence Kiel reached on a fielding error, Joshua Springer sent a single into right field to put Kiel in scoring position. A fielder’s choice and another error by Alpha Prime put the first run on the board for Alpha Prime. In the top of the third, Rustan Rigdon collected an RBI, ripping a single to left to extend the lead to 2-0. In the top of the fourth, Ty Southisene got in on the offensive fun for Alpha Prime, plating a run after singling on a hard ground ball to the shortstop to make the score 3-0.
Schiefelbein’s impressive performance was highlighted by an immaculate third inning in which he retired all three batters on nine total pitches. Landon Mack also had a productive day on the mound for Alpha Prime, striking out three batters in two innings of action. Southisene went 2-for-3 on the day with two singles and an RBI. Paul Valasquez and Luke Baker each recorded singles to supply Alpha Prime with their only hits of the afternoon. Alpha Prime reliever Branton Dickey struck out four batters in three scoreless innings.
Alpha Prime returns to action on Wednesday when it takes on Indiana Bulls Black to kick off day two action in Cary, N.C., at 8:00 a.m. on Field 4. CANES NATIONAL 17U/NY METS SCOUT TEAM 2, ROYALS SCOUT TEAM 2
Relief pitchers Cooper Williams and Hunter Hampshire each struck out five batters while each only surrendering one earned run in a 2-2 tie between Canes National 17U/NY Mets Scout Team (0-0-1) and the Royals Scout Team (0-0-1) at the 17U National Team Championships in North Carolina.
Canes scored its first run in the second inning on a rundown where Chris Newstrom survived long enough between first and second to allow Dante Nori to score. The Royals responded, scoring its first run on a chopper to third, which was followed up by the first hit of the game - a single from Grant Hollister. Canes got their second run on a wild pitch after a line drive single from Owen Paino. The game was a pitcher’s duel with starters Anson Seibert and Duncan Marsten coming out topping 95 mph, but it was the relief effort of Williams and Hampshire that made all the difference for both teams. Both pitchers would only surrender one earned run throughout their outings.
Down to their last four outs, Royals’ Tytus Cissell sent a solo shot over the left field wall to tie the game. Free baseball was delivered in the eighth inning with the international tiebreaker coming into effect. Unfortunately, due to the two hour and fifteen-minute drop dead time, the game would come to a close as a tie.
Seibert pitched 4.0 shutout innings while only conceding one hit with seven strikeouts. He was followed by Hampshire who surrendered one earned run on three hits and struck out five. On the Canes side, starter Duncan Marsten gave up one earned run on one hit while collecting a strikeout. His reliever, Williams, surrendered one run, the solo home run from Cissell, while fanning five batters. Paino had two of the three hits for the Canes while Grant Hollister and Cissell combined for the Royals only two hits.

Thomas Bly doubled to left center to put the Blue Jays in the lead at 4-2 heading into the lower half of the third. Off two singles and a walk, the Bulls tied up the game 4-4 in the bottom frame. The Blue Jays pulled away in the sixth with singles from Head and Johnston to take the lead and ultimately earn the 6-4 victory.

KNIGHTS KNATION 5, TEAM ELITE 4
Hayden Federico delivered a walk-off single to cap a four-run comeback for Knights Knation (1-0) Tuesday afternoon, taking down Team Elite (0-1) 5-4 at the 17U Championships in North Carolina.
The Knights knocked in the first run of the game, Trip Dobson’s RBI double in the second inning plated John Pearson, who reached on a line drive single to left. Team Elite knotted things up 1-1 in the third as Tate Sirmans crossed home plate before Foster Apple was tagged out in a rundown between first and second. A bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning brought in Braeden Weckman for Team Elite’s second run. Team Elite tacked on two more runs in the fourth off an Evan Hankins two-out two-RBI infield single, scoring Bo Walker and Ajay Jones. Knights Knation trimmed the deficit by one run in the home half of the fourth from a sac fly off the bat of Pearson, which drove in Sam Erickson. The Knights scored two more runs in the sixth to tie the ball game, as an Erickson sac fly was followed by Trey Hawsey’s RBI groundout. Knights Knation capped its comeback with a walk-off single by Federico in the seventh, driving in Brant Melancon for the win.
Federico went 2-for-4 on the day for Knights Knation, scoring once and batting in a run while gathering a stolen bag. Ethan Surowiec and Brooks Wright also collected a pair of hits, as they were both 2-for-2 against Team Elite. Starting pitcher Grant Breaux amassed five strikeouts in three innings for Knights Knation. Hankins brought in two runs for Team Elite off one base knock. Samuel Bradley and Walker each gathered a hit in two at-bats, and Bradley drove in a run and Walker later scored one for Team Elite.
Knights Knation will face Canes National at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at Coleman Field to continue pool play at the National Team Championships in North Carolina.
