Cary, N.C. - Top Tier Americans earned a spot in the 2018 11U Futures championship game after they defeated San Diego Show by a score of 9-0 on Saturday in Cary, North Carolina. It will be their second straight appearance in the 11U championship game as they took home the gold in 2017.
Top Tier Americans starting pitcher Jonathan Medina tossed four scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and one walk on 43 pitches. He allowed no runs. Medina was relieved by Gavin Flores, who started the fifth inning and would go on to finish the game for Top Tier Americans. He threw three scoreless innings, surrendering three scattered hits and two walks on 44 pitches.
Top Tier Americans jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first two innings. The score would remain until the fourth inning when San Diego Show allowed the first seven batters of the inning to reach base before recording an out. Top Tier Americans sent seven runs across the plate in the inning on five hits and one walk.
The offense was led by Gavin Flores. The 10th batter in the lineup and second pitcher of the day for Top Tier Americans, Flores recorded three hits in three at-bats. He came around to score once. Julius Pfau also had a strong offensive showing as he delivered with two hits and a sacrifice bunt. Pfau had one RBI and came around to score twice.
Top Tier Americans will play 5 Star MVP for the gold in the championship game on Sunday at 11 a.m. E.T. on field six at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
