MVP Hustle Secures Gold at 11U Futures Invitational

CARY, N.C. - Hamilton Friedberg pitched three innings of scoreless relief for MVP Hustle and its offense scored nine unanswered runs in the final two innings to defeat Banditos Black, 13-4, in the championship game of the 2019 11U Futures Invitational at Thomas Brooks Park on Sunday.

This marked the second consecutive 11U Futures Invitational for MVP Hustle after winning its first title in 2018.
Friedberg earned the win on the mound for MVP Hustle (5-0) after striking out one and allowing just two hits in his relief appearance. MVP Hustle's starting pitcher Gavin Fien earned a no-decision after allowing four hits in four innings on the mound and striking out three. Kalub Ramirez suffered the loss for Banditos Black (4-1), giving up three runs in 1.1 innings of work.
Nine different MVP Hustle batters tallied a hit on the day, led by Fien who went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and five runs scored. Kalub Ramirez and Karson Reeder both recorded two hits on the day for the Banditos Black offense.

  • MVP Hustle took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Brayden Gutierrez hit an RBI-triple to plate Gavin Fiend. Gutierrez scored one batter later when Anthony Del Angel hit an RBI-single to left field.
  • Banditos Black added a run of its own in the bottom of the first after Lucas Tinajero scored on a fielder's choice by Karson Reeder
  • Fien extended the MVP Hustle lead to two runs after scoring on a wild pitch in the third inning.
  • Jacob Delgadillo tallied a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Evan Lopez and bring Banditos Black within one run once again.
  • Fien scored his third run of the game in the top of the fifth on an infield single by Anthony Murphy to give MVP Hustle a 4-2 lead.
  • Aiden Acosta got on base thanks to an MVP Hustle error to start the home half of the fifth inning and came around to score on an RBI-triple from Tinajero to bring Banditos Black within one run for the third time. Karson Reeder then tied the game with a two-out RBI-single to score
  • After back-to-back one-out walks in the sixth inning, MVP Hustle used a Gavin Fien two-RBI single and three more free passes to take a 7-4 lead.
  • MVP Hustle manufactured six more runs in the final fame thanks to three Banditos Black errors, four walks, four hits and a sacrifice fly. Anthony Murphy, Elliott Webb, Miles Scott and Justin Lopez each contributed RBIs in the half-inning, putting the game out of reach at 13-4.
