West Palm Beach, Fla. - Bandito Scout dominated gameplay in a 12-0 victory over 5 Star 16U McCranie/Kellum at the National Team Championships in Florida on Sunday morning.
Bandito became friendly with home plate early on, scoring seven of the 12 runs in the top of the first inning. Evan Maldonado (2-for-3) reached base first, hitting a two-out triple to left field then scored on a single from Trey Rucker (2-for-3). Rucker stole both second and third base and scored when Malachi Lott (2-for-2) hit a single of his own to center.
The next five runs came home with Bandito taking advantage of a total of six walks, one hit-by-pitch, one passed ball and one wild pitch.
Bandito scored two more runs in the top of the second inning thanks to three singles and a sacrifice fly that brought Rucker and Lott home to give them a 9-0 lead.
The top of the third inning brought the final three runs of the game. John Rizzo (0-for-0) drew a leadoff walk and was joined on base when Brandon Burckel (0-for-2) reached on a 5 Star error. A pair of singles from Austin Stracener (1-for-3) and Maldonado scored Rizzo and Jacob Guzman, who came into the game to run for Burckel. The final run brought Maldonado home on a sacrifice fly from Lott.
Codey Eicher (1-for-1) and Paul Roberts (1-for-1) both tallied one single each for 5 Star.
John Rizzo (1-0) got the win for Bandito Scout, throwing for no runs on no hits and three strikeouts during his two innings on the mound. The loss went to 5 Star 16U McCranie/Kellum's CJ Collins (0-1) for tossing four runs on three hits and no strikeouts during 0.2 innings.
The game ended after four innings. Bandito Scout advances to 4-1 for the tournament and 5 Star 16U McCranie/Kellum falls to 0-4-1 heading into Monday's start of bracket play.
