CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball today named the 36-player roster for the 2024 12U National Team Training Camp following the 11U Futures Invitational in Cary, North Carolina. Training Camp will take place from June 24-28 in Cary as the U.S. prepares for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier from September 20-29 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The 12U National Team Training Camp will feature five days of intrasquad games, performance assessments, on-field workouts, and more. The roster will also be split into two teams for a four-game Stars vs. Stripes series, allowing the coaching staff to evaluate players in competitive gameplay. Following the conclusion of Training Camp, USA Baseball will name an Extended Training Camp roster that will reconvene prior to the World Cup Qualifier.
“We are very excited to select twenty-four players from a very competitive Futures Invitational field to take the next step at Training Camp,” said Cole Beeker, USA Baseball’s 12U National Team Program Director. “We are very confident in the Training Camp roster we have assembled, and our attention now turns to preparing to defend our gold medal this September.”
Twenty-four players were invited to Training Camp from the 11U Futures Invitational, joining 12 athletes who were previously selected following last summer’s 11U National Team Identification Series (NTIS) Champions Cup. Overall, 14 states are represented on the 12U National Team Training Camp roster, led by California’s 13 athletes. Florida follows with five representatives, Arizona boasts three players, and Alabama, Illinois, Texas, and Washington all feature two athletes on the Training Camp roster.
Team USA will be led by Bryan Madsen in 2024. Madsen is making his managerial debut for the stars and stripes after serving as an assistant coach on last year’s team that won gold at the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup. Madsen will be joined by Wes Brooks as pitching coach along with assistants Josh Ellison and Roger Wright. Brooks and Ellison are making their international coaching debuts while Wright returns to the staff after serving as an assistant coach at last year’s World Cup Qualifier.
The 12U National Team has won seven gold medals in international competition, most recently taking home two gold medals in 2023. The U.S. went unbeaten at the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier to win its second all-time gold medal at the event before defending its world title at the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup with its second consecutive world title last August.
