CARY, N.C. - Despite a five-run fourth inning from Team Stars, Team Stripes overcame a blown lead and pulled off a heroic two-run seventh-inning rally that earned the team a 6-5 win in the first game of the 15U National Team Training Camp in Cary, North Carolina, on Monday.
How it Happened
- The Stars both opened and ended the scoring for the day, putting up two runs in the second frame — Jared Grindlinger drew first blood with a double to left field.
- Team Stars added another run in the third via a sacrifice fly from Andrew Maniscalco.
- Facing a 3-0 deficit, the Stars blasted ahead with an impressive five-run fourth frame that started with a sacrifice fly from Jordan Kurz.
- Soon enough, a Shouse single cut the deficit to 3-2, an error knotted the bout at 3-3, and a two-run homer to left field from Cooper Collins granted Team Stars its first lead of the day at 5-3.
- Pitcher Isaac Vidal entered for the Stripes in the fifth inning and avenged his team’s blown lead by hurling three innings of one-hit, shoutout ball.
- Vidal’s team followed up on his efforts on the mound with a clutch three runs in the final two frames of the contest.
- Brett Paciorek doubled down on his team’s one run in the sixth frame with a game-winning single that scored two and gave his squad the lead at 6-5.
- Vidal flamed two strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh to secure the Stripes’ win, the first of the 15U National Team Training Camp.
