GREENVILLE, N.C. - ECU's Jake Agnos has been added to the 2018 Collegiate National Team (CNT) roster according to a release by USA Baseball Monday morning. Agnos will join Pirate Head Coach Cliff Godwin (third base and hitting coach) this summer representing the Red, White and Blue.
Agnos, who is one of 16 players vying for a spot on the final 24-man and 26-man CNT rosters, appeared in 22 games making 14 starts where he posted a 4-4 record with one save. The sophomore fanned a team-high 86 batters, walked 38 and allowed 32 runs (29 earned) in 63.2 innings for a 4.10 ERA. Agnos got the start in the American Athletic Conference Baseball title game where he tossed four scoreless frames, surrendered six hits and struck an AAC Baseball Championship record nine batters in the Pirates 4-3 win over UConn.
The lefty worked five-plus innings four times and struck out multiple batters on 19 occasions (four or more 14 times). Agnos picked up wins against Charleston, No. 20 UCF, Elon and No. 3 Duke while notching his first career save against Tulane during first round action in the AAC Baseball Championships.
Agnos, who is schedule to return to North Carolina early in the week, has been playing summer ball for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League. He made one appearance tossing six shutout innings against Falmouth allowing three hits, two walks and fanned 10 batters in a 4-1 victory.
The 2018 Collegiate National Team will train at the USA Baseball National Training Complex and compete against teams in the Coastal Plain League from June 26-27, before hosting the 18th USA vs. Chinese Taipei International Friendship Series from June 28-July 2. All seven games will be streamed live on USABaseball.com and Facebook Live.
The team will then host the 42nd USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series from July 3-9. Finally, Team USA will travel to Cuba for the 7th Annual USA vs. Cuba International Friendship Series that will take place July 13-18.
