The 16U National Team Championships in Arizona have come and gone. And with it, the list of the tournament’s top-performing players have been officially announced.
After FS21 Stars won gold, Stacked Baseball took silver, and CCB Prime claimed bronze, six position players and four pitchers were named to the 2024 16U All-Tournament Team. In no particular order, let’s get to the best players from this year’s tourney.
Ryan Harwood, FS21 Stars, #34
Ryan Harwood’s FS21 Stars won it all at the 16U Champs Arizona against Stacked Baseball in the gold medal game of the tournament. Harwood played an instrumental part in getting his team gold by most notably leading all players in the competition in hits with 11 and RBIs with 14 — four more above any other batter.
Harwood also racked up an event-leading five extra base hits, two of which were doubles and three of which were triples. At the end of it all, Harwood also donned a gold medal with the rest of his team as perhaps the most valuable player in the competition.
McCoy Silicz, NorCal Valley, #9
Like Harwood, McCoy Silicz racked up a tournament-leading 11 hits, but he only did it in five games and 17 plate appearances. A hit machine, Silicz toted a .647 batting average by the end of his time in Surprise and Peoria, Arizona. In that time, he also recorded four RBIs and a double for NorCal Valley.
Karson Reeder, Texas Twelve Red Sox, #2
Karson Reeder didn’t have much time at the plate, either. However, the Texas Twelve Red Sox star made all of his appearances count, especially as he collected a tournament-leading five extra base hits and crafted a .583 batting average.
One of the only players to hit a double, triple, and a home run, Reeder also made his name known by being one of just three players to hit two home runs in Arizona. His talent for extra base hits, and resulting seven RBIs, earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team list.
AJ Curry, 5 Star West San Diego, #12
AJ Curry was the other batter at this year’s Champs Arizona to both hit a double, triple, and home run while blasting two homers. Doing it all for 5 Star West San Diego, Curry specialized in extra base hits, and again like Reeder, Curry tallied seven total hits in five games played. By the end of his 16 plate appearances, he toted a .538 batting average, .625 on-base percentage, and four RBIs.
Jhett Ohira, TB Socal Evoshield, #1
TB SoCal Evoshield’s Jhett Ohira hit his way onto the All-Tournament Team with his impressive performance in the box at Champs Arizona. Aside from guiding his squad to the semifinal round, Ohira racked up eight hits and nine RBIs in his 16 plate appearances. Additionally, Ohira hit for extra bases three times, two of which were three-baggers. He also posted an on-base percentage of .625 and a batting average of .571
Nathan Horstmann, MBA Navy 2026, #7
Nathan Horstmann played five games for MBA Navy at the 2024 16U Championships, with his high on-base percentage and batting average as his claim to fame. Toting a .769 batting average and a .800 OBP, Horstmann tallied 10 hits, which was second-most in the event. He also added five RBIs and one double to his statline in Arizona.
Giovanni Guariglia, GBG Vegas, Pitcher, #3
Giovanni Guariglia was a flamethrower for GBG Vegas at Champs Arizona. The ace flamed a tournament-high 16 strikeouts in his 10 innings pitched. Making four appearances for GBG, Guariglia sat down batter after batter and was one of the few arms to collect a win over the week. He also posted an opposing batting average of .121 and an ERA of 2.03.
Gavin Guy, Long Beach Bears, Pitcher, #11
Gavin Guy also ranked towards the top of the tourney in punchouts with 13. More impressively, though, Guy was a master of not allowing his opponents to reach base. While on the mound for the Long Beach Bears, he toted an opposing batting average of just .080 and an ERA of 0.00 in his eight innings of play.
Ronan O’Brien, Trosky Arizona, Pitcher, #47
Ronan O’Brien also kept his opponents off the board while on the bump. Pitching for Trosky Arizona, O’Brien tossed 10 frames in just two games, posting an opposing batting average of .182 and an ERA of 0.00. He also tossed five punchouts in his time at Champs Arizona.
Jared Marchbank, Stacked Baseball, Pitcher, #14
Jared Marchbank helped guide his team to the tournament finals with his impressive tournament. Along with a silver medal, Marchbank left Arizona with 14 punchouts, good for second-most out of all arms at the event. In his four games and 10 innings pitched, Marchbank boasted an ERA of .70 and an opposing batting average of just .152.
