CARY, N.C. - USA Baseball revealed the 2018 18U National Team Training roster on Tuesday. Beginning on November 14, the 26-man training roster will compete in a series of workouts and seven exhibition games in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, before the final 20-man 18U National Team roster will be announced on November 20.
Team USA will then travel to Panama City, Panama, to compete in the COPABE U-18 Pan American Championships from November 23 - December 2.
The 18U team will be looking for its fifth-consecutive Pan American Championships gold medal in 2018. The program has won seven straight international tournament titles dating back to 2011, including winning the last four World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cups in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.
The 26-man roster features six USA Baseball alumni, including Carter Young (Selah, Wash.), who returns to the 18U program after winning a gold medal at the 2017 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup. Pete Crow-Armstrong (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), Dylan Crews (Longwood, Fla.) and Masyn Winn (Kingwood, Texas) are also on the 26-man roster. The trio won a gold medal with the 15U National Team at the 2017 COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships in Cartagena, Colombia last summer. 2013 12U National Team gold medalists Yohandy Morales (Miami, Fla.) and Anthony Volpe (Watchung, N.J.) are the final athletes on the roster that have previously played for Team USA.
Twenty athletes are competing for the opportunity to wear the red, white and blue for the first time.
In total, 15 members of the roster have participated in the USA Baseball National Team Development Program (NTDP). The NTDP offers identified athletes an opportunity to connect with USA Baseball staff to better prepare for a future national team experience.
American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Famer Jack Leggett will lead the 18U National Team in 2018. He is joined on staff by pitching coach Scott Bankhead and assistant coaches Mervyl Melendez and Gregg Ritchie.
