Champs Arizona 14U Pool Play Day One Roundup

The fourth and final age group participating at the National Team Championships in Arizona has completed playing its first day of baseball in Peoria and Surprise, Arizona. Teams in the 14U tournament have started their campaigns for Champs’ last set of gold medals with play today, so let’s get into all the highlights.

Surprise, Arizona

To kick off the competition, Truth showed it was on the right side of things with an 8-2 victory over BPA after jumping out to a 6-0 lead by the end of the second frame. GBG Vegas also captured a big win in a 9-0 shutout over SoCal Baseball Academy that ended after just five frames thanks to GBG’s persistent offense. Next on the docket for action at the Texas Rangers’ spring training facilities in Surprise were two high-scoring, one-run wins. While So Cal Birds White took down Top Tier Dudes 9-8, The San Diego Show walked off the Diablo Valley Oaks after a thrilling sixth and final frame. After Diablo Valley plated six in the top of the inning to take a 10-9 lead, San Diego walked off its opponents after countering with two runs.

Legacy Baseball Group started things at the Kansas City Royals’ spring training facilites with a 4-1 win over NorCal Cardinal. On the next field over, TPA-Outlaws also secured a close victory with a win over Sandlot Baseball Club Silver. After getting out to an early 4-1 lead, TPA held off Sandlot for an eventual 5-4 win. CBA Victus San Diego only allowed two hits in its impressive 10-0 shutout win over ZT Renegades while Total Baseball Vipers - Navy romped Team Kado Hawaii White after just five frames in Surprise.

To start the afternoon’s slate of games, both RCB Elite and Lone Star Brewers - Scout Team plated nine to begin their tournaments. RCB beat JGB Rockstars 9-5 thanks to a six-run fourth while Lone Star downed CBA Bulldogs National 9-1. Saddleback Cowboys Cardinal also only allowed one run in their lopsided victory, beating GBG Utah Navy 11-1 thanks in part to a seven-run fourth inning. To finish off the group, Prime Red beat TB SoCal in a close, 6-5 result on the Rangers’ quad.

Both TB SoCal Evoshield and Canes West only allowed two runs in their wins on the Royals’ quad during the afternoon. SoCal scored in every inning but one during its 10-2 rout over Quakes Baseball Academy while Canes West was actually out-hit during its game against GBG Navy but still pulled out with a 7-2 win. Cali National Baseball Academy beat New Level Nationals 14-3 while MBA Navy beat West Coast Red Sox by just two runs in a close 7-5 victory to finish off the day in Surprise.

Peoria, Arizona

Action at the Seattle Mariners’ spring training complex in Peoria started with two very close, one-run wins. AZ Runners Baseball outlasted BPA White 4-3 while the Scottsdale Dirtbags beat out 5 Star West SD 5-4 in six exciting innings. The other two games on the Mariners’ quad went the opposite. MVP Hustle put on the first blowout, throttling the San Juan Cubs 17-1 in four frames while Total Baseball Vipers - Fresno put on the second with its 15-3 win over Team California. Like MVP Hustle, Total Baseball downed its opponents with ease in just four innings.

At the San Diego Padres’ spring training facility, two teams picked up 8-5 wins in the early morning’s slate of games. Let Them Play SoCal beat Pono Baseball while Prime Navy beat out Bombers Baseball Club of Southern California. Next, both OC Premier Navy and ZT National Prospects won by double-digits. OC Premier routed the West Coast A’s in just four innings 13-2 while National Prospects beat Juggernaut Baseball 17-5.

Late action on the Mariners’ quad was highlighted by a total 28 runs scored between Trosky Force and GBG Navy American. Trosky took the high-scoring bout after plating 12 in the final two frames of its five-inning game with GBG Navy American. Meanwhile, Placentia Mustangs beat Matadors 11-3. To wrap up the late group in Peoria, both One National and Trosky National won in close battles. One National beat Dukes Baseball 3-2 despite recording just two hits and Trosky National beat CBA Broncos in a 5-3 final decision.

Reed Johnson beat 310 Baseball Team on the Padres’ facilities towards the end of the first day of play at Champs Arizona. After Reed Johnson won 7-4, Legacy Baseball Group 14U Black picked up a 12-4 win over AZBC thanks to a seven-run fifth frame. To close out the day, Swarm Red Elite National survived a GBG Inland Empire comeback in a 10-9 win and Stacked National romped Next Level Baseball 14-2, with its large final advantage due to a seven-run sixth inning.
