Four-Run Rally in Seventh Inning Pushes Grey to 5-0 Shutout Win over Light Blue

Team Grey’s five-man pitching staff of Xavier Mitchell, Luke Hemric, Tyler Wood, Nico Partida, and Cameron Appenzeller stood strong on the mound, only giving up one hit across seven innings to provide Grey with a 5-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Conor Essenburg (Light Blue) and Mitchell (Grey) took control of the game early on the mound, each posting two scoreless innings while tallying three strikeouts apiece.
  • Light Blue’s duo of Caleb Barnett and David Ramirez kept Grey from reaching home in the third and fourth inning, respectively, as they combined for two hitless innings and five strikeouts.
  • Hemric (Grey) answered with three strikeouts of his own, keeping the game scoreless going into the fifth frame.
  • Ethan Holliday cracked the seal with a hard-hit single up the middle to plate the first run of the game, giving Grey a 1-0 advantage in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Alec Blair and Quentin Young sparked an offensive outburst for Grey, notching four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Blair punched a run across the plate with a sacrifice fly while Young slapped an RBI single to right field.
  • Landon Schaefer finalized the four-run rally for Grey with a two-RBI single to move the score to 5-0 in favor of Grey.
  • Appenzeller sealed the win for Grey, collecting two strikeouts and forcing a fly out in the final inning.

Team Red Survives Late Team Grey Effort, Secures 6-5 Win

Josiah Hartshorn slapped a late two-RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to register Red a win on the last day of 18U National Team Training Camp.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Aiden Stillman (Navy) had a strong showing in the opening two innings, punching out three batters and giving up one hit in his time on the bump.
  • Team Red’s Ethan Porter put his crew on top, 1-0, with a single up the middle, pushing Josh Owens home.
  • Brayden Jaksa extended Red’s lead by one in the bottom of the fourth frame, smashing a double to left center field.
  • Luke Billings, of Team Red, moved the score to 3-0 after he slapped a sacrifice fly to left field.
  • Jaden Fauske added another run to Red’s total with a double, pushing the score to 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth frame.
  • Team Navy went on a five-run rally in the top of the seventh inning after sneaking three runners home on a wild pitch, bases-loaded walk, and a bases-loaded hit by pitch. JD Stein capped off the run and gave Navy a 5-4 lead with an RBI single to the left side.
  • Red regained the lead at the turn of the inning, 6-5, courtesy of Hartshorn and his two-RBI single which would secure his squad the win.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Nicholas Frusco (Red) tallied game-best four strikeouts in two innings of scoreless work on the bump.
  • Jacob Lombard (Navy) and Hartshorn (Red) drew a game-high two walks.
  • Hartshorn also collected a game-best two RBIs for Team Red.
  • The Team Navy trio of Stillman, Xavier Neyens, and Samuel Harris each collected three strikeouts in their respective outings.
  • Hartshorn and Porter both stole two bases which was good for a contest-high.
