Champs Arizona 16U Pool Play Day Two Group Two

Pool Play at the 16U National Team Championships is complete. Thirty-two out of 64 teams have now booked their spots in bracket play starting on Saturday, with the goal of winning it all in Monday’s gold-medal match. Without further ado, let’s hit the highlights from the afternoon’s slate of baseball in Surprise and Peoria, Arizona.

Surprise, Arizona

CBA Summit got things going with a win at the Texas Rangers’ spring training facilities in Surprise for the afternoon's slate of doubleheaders. CBA trailed Canes West OC 6-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, but put on a monstrous six-run frame to walk-off its opponents. Trosky/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team and 5 Star West SD both put on shutouts to start their days — Trosky beat Zoots Baseball Club 6-0 and 5 Star West downed California Bucs in an 8-0 win.

Action in Surprise continued at the Kansas City Royals’ spring training facility with Canes West’s dominant, 10-0 shutout win over TPA-Outlaws. TB SoCal also plated double-digit runs in a 10-2 win over Canes West CA while Baum Bat NW beat AZ Future Stars 6-3 on the Royals’ fields. To wrap up action from the afternoon’s first set of games in Surprise, New Level and SSC were locked in a shootout, one that New Level triumphed in after surviving a late-game SSC comeback, eventually winning its first game of the day 9-8.

Trosky/Milwaukee Brewers achieved its second shutout of the day in a 5-0 rout over Canes West OC, continuing its streak of dominant baseball from pool play at the 16U competition. CBA Summit captured a 4-3 win late in the afternoon at the Rangers’ fields, beating Zoots Baseball Club for its second win of the day. California Bucs beat Alpha Power in a shootout on the Rangers’ quad, plating five in the top of the seventh for a come-from-behind 9-6 win. To finish the group, GBG Vegas routed 5 Star West in a 10-2 win thanks to an eight-run third inning.

Canes West won the second leg of its doubleheader in a 5-2 victory against AZ Future Stars. Meanwhile on the Royals’ quad, both Baum Bat NW and TB SoCal won in convincing fashion — Baum beat TPA-Outlaws 12-5 and TB SoCal beat New Level by nine runs in a 14-5 decision in Surprise. To finish off the group, SSC walked off Canes West CA after trailing by a run heading into the bottom of the seventh. SSC plated two and sent Canes West packing while picking up its first win of the afternoon.

Peoria, Arizona

MASH National and OC Premier Navy got the afternoon’s set of baseball started with a pair of shutouts over their respective opponents. MASH National shut out Badlands Baseball 8-0 while OC Premier stifled Team California Underclass 7-0 after allowing just three hits. CBA Bulldogs earned a close 5-3 win over One National at the Seattle Mariners’ spring training facilities while CCB Prime Navy beat Storm Elite 8-4 on the next field over.

Baseball in Peoria at the San Diego Padres’ spring training complex started with CBA Victus San Diego 10-6 after scoring in every inning but one in its bout with Dukes Baseball. ZT Renegades also won in a high-scoring tilt, outgunning Nor Cal Valley 17-8 in five innings. Matadors came out with a close, walk-off win against MBA Navy in an exciting game on the Padres’ quad. After MBA plated three in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead, Matadors walked off its opponents after plating two for a 5-4 win. To finish off the group, GamePrep Baseball Academy shut down Juggernaut Baseball in an 8-1 win after allowing just one run off two hits.

Badlands Baseball avenged its earlier 8-0 shutout with an 8-0 shutout of its own, dismantling OC Premier in the late set of games at the Mariners’ facilities. That wasn’t the end of the group’s shutouts, though. CBA Bulldogs routed CCB Prime 10-0 and One National put on a 9-0 win over Storm Elite. The only low-scoring result of the group came from Team Cal Underclass’ 3-1 win over MASH National.

Dukes Baseball handed Nor Cal Valley its second loss of the day in a 12-5 final decision to start the late afternoon’s set of baseball in Peoria at the Padres’ facilities. ZT Renegades and MBA Navy each pulled off two more shutouts to end pool play with ZT clobbering CBA Victus San Diego 9-0 and MBA beating GamePrep Baseball Academy 8-0. The final game in pool play featured Juggernaut Baseball earning an 11-7 win over Matadors at the Padres’ quad.
