CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball today revealed the roster for the 2024 15U National Team Training Camp, which is scheduled for August 5-9 at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The Training Camp roster will compete for 20 spots on the final 15U National Team roster.
The 15U National Team, which will be named on August 9, will compete in a five-game friendship series against Australia’s U-16 National Team in September in Atlanta, Georgia. It will be the first time that the U.S. and Australia will compete in a standalone series outside of the 18U level.
“We are pleased to welcome this group of highly talented young players and we look forward to having the chance to work with them,” said Ben Kelley, USA Baseball’s 15U National Team Director. “We are also thrilled to have a talented and experienced coaching staff who will undoubtedly help continue to develop and guide these players. Our focus is on building the best possible roster to take on Australia in September.”
The Training Camp roster features 10 USA Baseball alumni, including Andrew Jimenez, who played for the 15U National Team in 2023. Jimenez helped lead the U.S. to a perfect 5-0 record in a five-game international friendship series against the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico last fall. Additionally, nine players from the 2021 12U National Team will battle for a spot on this year’s 15U team: Easton Brunson, Chase Cotton, Jared Grindlinger, Caleb Hudson, Jackson Maddix, Julian Martinez, Julian Rodriguez, Jacob Seamon, and Isaac Vidal. The 2021 12U National Team went 3-0 in a friendly exhibition slate in Flower Mound, Texas.
In total, 12 players on the Training Camp roster have previously participated in USA Baseball’s 13U/14U Athlete Development Program (ADP), including two-time participants Caden Borcherding, Cotton, Griffin McKain, and Seamon. Grindlinger, Maddix, Jimenez, and Vidal all participated in the event in 2022, while Brunson, **Luke Esquivel,**Hudson, and Martinez were members of the 2023 program. A staple in USA Baseball’s developmental programming, the ADP features advanced on-field skills development with positional and team-fundamental drills, along with ongoing evaluation by the coaching staff. Athletes also participate in off-field educational seminars while gaining exposure to professional scouts and college recruiters.
In addition to the 42 players on the Training Camp roster, two athletes will be selected from this year’s 13U/14U ADP for a chance to represent Team USA. The ADP will run from August 1-4 at the National Training Complex, and the two selected players will be announced at the conclusion of the event.
Twelve players on this year’s Training Camp roster were identified from the National Team Identification Series (NTIS) Champions Cup last August at the National Training Complex. The NTIS is the most comprehensive player identification program offered by USA Baseball, created in 2009 to provide all athletes from across the United States an opportunity to compete for a spot on a USA Baseball national team.
Overall, eighteen different states are represented on the 2024 15U Training Camp roster. California has eight representatives to lead all states, followed by Florida, which has five. Four players on the roster hail from Georgia, while three each come from Arizona, Texas, and Washington.
The 2024 15U National Team will be led by eight-time Team USA coach Rob Shabansky, who will serve as the team’s manager for the second consecutive summer. He is joined by Steve Butler, Casey Scott, and Derek Simmons on staff. The Training Camp staff includes Stars Manager RJ Farrell and assistants Nick James, Andre Butler, and Drew Briese, along with Stripes Manager Larry Vucan and assistants Cooper Fouts, JD Pruitt, and Troy Tulowitzki.
