
CARY, N.C. – Maryland’s Alex Calarco belted a pair of grand slams and drove in 13 runs en route to being named USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Week 2 Player of the Week presented by Chinook Seedery and DI Baseball.
Dating back to February 15 vs. Ball State, Calarco hit a grand slam in three consecutive outings, with the streak going through the first two games of Maryland’s series against Western Carolina.
In the first game of the series on February 21, Calarco went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. In game two, Calarco helped the Terps break a pair of school records (35 runs and 27 hits) in their 35-12 victory over the Catamounts while going 3-for-5 with six RBIs and a pair of runs. In the series finale on February 23, he tallied a base hit and an RBI to extend his hit and RBI streak to five games.
Calarco currently leads all Division I players with 20 RBIs on the season.
