Champs Arizona 16U Pool Play Roundup Day One

Week three of the National Team Championships in Arizona is here. The 16U competition is officially underway with each of the competition’s 64 squads playing their first game of the tournament in pool play. Let’s get into all the highlights from the first day of action from Surprise and Peoria, Arizona.

Surprise, Arizona

Three of the day’s early games from Surprise saw teams locked in low-scoring defensive battles at the Texas Rangers’ spring training complex. To start, 5 Star West SD beat Alpha Power 4-2 while both Zoots Baseball Club and GBG Vegas beat their respective opponents by just one run. Zoots downed Canes West OC 2-1 while Vegas shut out California Bucs in a tight, 1-0 pitcher’s duel. Trosky/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team also put on a shutout, but did it in dominant fashion, routing CBA Summit in a 13-0 win after allowing just three hits.

Action at the Kansas City Royals’ spring training facilities started with Baum Bat NW’s 11-2 rout over Canes West thanks to Baum’s stunning ten-run fifth inning that quickly turned a close game into a blowout. New Level also put on a dominant win over a Canes squad after defeating Canes West CA in a 13-5 game at the Royals’ quad. AZ Future Stars beat TPA-Outlaws by four after turning a 2-2 tie into an 8-4 victory in just a couple innings. To round off the group, TB SoCal downed SSC thanks to a seven-run third inning that granted TB an 8-3 win.

Texas Twelve Red Sox started the afternoon’s slate with an 8-3 win over GBG Navy after its starting pitcher, Kason Kolle, hurled eight strikeouts in his 4.1 innings on the mound. The other three games on the Rangers’ quad were all close battles, including Swarm Red Elite’s 5-3 win over EJ Sports Warriors. Prime Navy beat GBG Navy American 4-1 while FS21 Stars broke a 0-0 deadlock in the sixth inning, claiming a 2-1 win over NorCal 2026 White soon after.

GBG Inland Empire got things started in the afternoon games at Surprise with a 9-1 victory over Slammers Akerfelds, plating four in the first and five in the sixth to win in six innings. Quakes Baseball Academy won a close, 4-2 bout after scoring the go-ahead three runs against CCB Prime White in the sixth. Meanwhile, Trosky Force and Prime Red each captured convincing wins to wrap up the action. Trosky beat Legacy Baseball Group 16U Gold in a dominant, 12-5 win and Prime Red put on a 5-0 shutout over the Scottsdale Dirtbags.

Peoria, Arizona

Badlands Baseball walked off Team Cal Underclass in an exciting start to action at the Seattle Mariners’ spring training complex in Peoria. After entering the sixth and final inning tied at 1-1, Badlands plated two to get out to a 1-0 start at Champs Arizona. Other games at Peoria included two shootouts where OC Premier Navy and CBA Bulldogs National claimed close victories. CBA scored a game-winning three runs in the fifth and final frame to beat Storm Elite 9-8 and OC Premier beat MASH National 11-9. To wrap off the early group at the Mariners’ quad, One National downed CCB Prime Navy 6-2.

Dukes Baseball throttled ZT Renegades in the first round of baseball at the San Diego Padres’ spring training facility at Peoria. Dukes Baseball beat the Renegades in just five innings after plating seven in the fifth. MBA Navy also captured a convincing win in its 12-1 victory, run-ruling MBA Navy in just four innings after scoring six in the first and third frames. GamePrep Baseball Academy survived a late comeback from Matadors to win a close, 5-4 bout on the Padres’ fields while CBA Victus San Diego held Nor Cal Valley in check en route to a 5-1 victory over NC Valley.

Stacked Baseball rocked The Rock Baseball Club in a 7-1 win at the Mariners’ facilities, shutting out Stacked until nearly the very end of its early afternoon tilt. Next Level Baseball beat out the San Diego Show 10-4 after Next Level got out to a strong 4-0 lead to start the game. Team Cal Warriors also started their game off with a 4-0 lead, eventually beating West Coast A’s Baseball 5-1. To wrap up action on the Mariners’ quad, Rawlings Tigers OC outdueled USA Prime 4 Corners despite USA Prime’s attempts at a late comeback.

The Long Beach Bears and So Cal Birds Orange both clutched out close victories at the late set of games at the Royals’ facilities. Long Beach earned a 3-0 shutout over 16U Ghost National while So Cal Birds Orange beat Team Kado Hawaii 7-5 after overcoming an early 3-0 deficit. To finish off the action from the first day of 16U Champs Arizona, Trosky Arizona 2026 Regional beat Total Baseball Vipers - National 7-3 at the Royals’ quad.
