Champs Arizona 14U Pool Play Day Two Group Two Roundup

Pool play at the 14U National Team Championships is officially over, and 32 teams have now booked their spots in bracket play with the goal of winning a gold medal at the end of the competition. Let’s go over all the highlights from the second group of doubleheaders in Surprise and Peoria, Arizona.

Surprise, Arizona

The San Diego Show started off the afternoon’s slate of baseball with a close, 8-7 win over BPA. Despite being down early, San Diego put up six runs in the sixth and plated the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to defeat BPA. Truth took down the Diablo Valley Oaks in five innings thanks to a persistent offensive effort that granted it a 9-1 win. GBG Vegas also won by a score of 9-1, downing So Cal Birds White after plating nine runs in the first two frames of its game. Top Tier Dudes beat SoCal Baseball Academy in a shootout, plating the game-winning runs in the top of the seventh in a 13-20 win.

Action at the Kansas City Royals’ spring training facilities started with a 4-4 draw between Legacy Baseball Group Gold and ZT Renegades. Next, NorCal Cardinal eked past CBA Victus San Diego in a 7-6 win in Surprise. Total Baseball Vipers - Navy captured a double-digit, 11-1 win over Sandlot Baseball Club Silver in five frames while TPA-Outlaws downed Team Kado Hawaii 6-3.

Back on the Rangers’ facilities, Truth won its second game of the day. Like its first win, Truth ran up the score, beating the San Diego Show 14-6 in a four-inning game after a 10-run first frame. The other three teams on the Rangers’ quad in the late afternoon turned in blowout wins, including BPA’s 8-0 shutout against the Diablo Valley Oaks. So Cal Birds White won the battle of the SoCal’s after beating SoCal Baseball Academy 10-1, and GBG Vegas put on a dominant 14-0 shutout over Top Tier Dudes in just four innings thanks to a nine-run third inning.

To finish off the day’s slate of baseball in Surprise, CBA Victus San Diego won a close, 7-6 bout over Legacy Baseball Group Gold, walking off CBA with a three-run, come-from-behind effort in the bottom of the seventh. ZT Renegades also plated seven runs, but held its opponents to just two as it beat NorCal Cardinal 7-2 on the Royals’ set of fields. Meanwhile, Total Baseball Vipers - Navy beat TPA-Outlaws 9-3 and Team Kado Hawaii edged out Sandlot Baseball Club Silver in a close 8-6 game despite a late comeback effort from Sandlot.

Peoria, Arizona

AZ Runners Baseball got off to a hot start on the second day of pool play with a five-inning, 9-1 win over Team California. Next on the Seattle Mariners’ spring training complex was a 7-7 draw between BPA White and Total Baseball Vipers - Fresno. The San Juan Cubs defeated the Scottsdale Dirtbags thanks to a crucial four-run sixth and MVP Hustle walked-off 5 Star West in the sixth inning of a close bout with a final line of 5-4.

Pono Baseball continued the day’s trend of high-scoring, lopsided wins with its 11-1 win over Prime Navy. Let Them Play SoCal outgunned Bombers Baseball Club of Southern California in a 12-9 shootout on the San Diego Padres’ spring training facilities while both OC Premier Navy and ZT National Prospects followed suit. OC Premier Navy beat Juggernaut Baseball 15-4 after four frames and a nine-run first and ZT National shut out West Coast A’s Baseball in a dominant, three-inning 17-0 showing.

AZ Runners Baseball, BPA White, and MVP Hustle all ran up the score in their respective late-afternoon bouts on the Mariners’ quad of fields. AZ Runners beat Total Baseball - Vipers 16-1, BPA White downed Team California 13-3 after a monstrous 10-run second inning, and MVP Hustle earned an 11-5 win over the Scottsdale Dirtbags. While high-scoring the shootout between 5 Star West SD and the San Juan Cubs was eventually won by 5 Star in a 12-10 final decision.

To end the last round of Champs Arizona’s final day of pool play, Pono Baseball outlasted Bombers Baseball Club in a 6-5 result on the Padres’ spring training fields. Let Them Play SoCal downed Prime Navy by double-digits thanks to an eight-run fourth inning that resulted in a 14-4 win. ZT National Prospects beat OC Premier Gray after a six-run first boosted it to a 10-5 win and Juggernaut Baseball walked off the West Coast A’s 4-3 after a clutch, three-run, bottom of the seventh rally.
