CCB Prime Downs Baum Bat NW 6-1 to Claim Bronze at 16U Champs Arizona

There was no doubt about CCB Prime’s bronze medal win at the 16U National Team Championships in Arizona. Facing off against Baum Bat NW, Prime put on its best stuff when it counted the most and bested its opponents in a 6-1 victory in Surprise, Arizona.

CCB Prime dominated its bronze medal bout with Baum Bat. Defensively, Prime only allowed two hits, shutting out its opponents until the sixth inning while it put up six runs on seven hits on offense. All in all, CCB Prime’s complete performance earned the squad a set of bronze medals on championship day of the 16U tournament.

Starting pitcher Zach Stallworth thwarted Baum Bat’s efforts to get on the board all day long. Nearly throwing a complete game, Stallworth only allowed two hits and one earned run while tallying four punchouts.

On offense, CCB Prime jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. Thanks to three straight hits, one of which was an RBI double to center field by designated hitter Kelton Floan, Prime quickly plated two and never looked back.

Despite giving up free passes to Baum Bat, Stallworth’s day on the mound was smooth sailing for him and his squad. He sent back batters in order for the first three innings and didn’t allow a hit until the fourth frame. Stallworth even flamed back-to-back strikeouts to end the second frame as he continued to stymie Baum Bat NW.

CCB Prime added a run in the top of the third. After a single and a walk started Prime off, a double from first baseman Michael Thomas increased his team’s lead to 3-0.

Stallworth kept his foot on the gas while commanding the bump and so did CCB’s offense. It struck again in the fifth inning, and while it only recorded two hits, the team scored three runs. Thanks to yet another RBI double, CCB Prime was up 5-0, and shortly after, 6-0. Shortstop Hudson Summerrill, who hit the double, finished his day 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI’s.

While CCB tried its best to shut out Baum Bat NW, its opponents managed to get one past Stallworth and company in the bottom of the sixth. However, CCB Prime limited the damage and rode its 6-1 lead until the end, eventually claiming bronze at the 16U National Team Championships in Arizona.
