CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball today announced that University of Southern California Head Coach and 2014 Rod Dedeaux Coach of the Year Andy Stankiewicz will manage the 2025 Collegiate National Team. He returns to USA Baseball for his fifth coaching stint after serving as an assistant coach for the Collegiate National Team in 2012 and 2023 and managing the 18U National Team in 2014 and 2017.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Andy back to manage this year’s Collegiate National Team,” said USA Baseball’s General Manager of Collegiate and Professional National Teams Eric Campbell. “He has had a lot of success at not just the collegiate level, but also with Team USA and he knows what it takes to win on the international stage. We are confident that Andy will guide our team to a great deal of success while providing unparalleled guidance to the top non-draft eligible players in the country.”
Stankiewicz brings a bevy of international experience with the stars and stripes to this year’s team. He led the 18U National Team to gold medals as manager at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier in 2014 and the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in 2017. Thanks to his success with the 2014 18U squad, he was named USA Baseball’s Rod Dedeaux Coach of the Year. Additionally, he captured a bronze medal as an assistant coach at Honkbalweek Haarlem in the Netherlands with the Collegiate National Team in 2012.
The Southern California native is currently in his third year at the helm of the Trojans after being named head coach in July of 2022. Under his leadership, the program turned in its first back-to-back 30-win seasons since 2001-2002 and the first back-to-back top four finishes in the conference standings since 2014-2015. He currently owns an 81-62-1 record at USC, including 34 wins in conference play, and a career record of 422-301-3.
Prior to his time at USC, Stankiewicz spent 11 successful seasons at Grand Canyon University where the Lopes won five regular season Western Athletic Conference (WAC) titles and earned two consecutive NCAA Tournament bids in 2021 and 2022. Stankiewicz took over at Grand Canyon when the program was at the Division II level in 2012, successfully leading the transition to Division I in 2014. Twenty-one players were chosen in the Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft during his time at GCU.
Stankiewicz began his coaching career in 2004 when he served as manager for the New York Yankees NY-Penn League team in Staten Island for two seasons, guiding the squad to the NY-Penn League championship in 2005. He then joined Arizona State’s coaching staff for three seasons (2007-2009) and helped lead the Sun Devils to three Pac-10 championships and two appearances in the College World Series. After his time in Phoenix, he was a minor league coordinator for the Seattle Mariners before taking the Grand Canyon coaching position in 2012.
As a player, Stankiewicz had a standout collegiate career at Pepperdine that included two NCAA Regional appearances and one West Coast Conference championship. He currently ranks in the school's top 10 in runs scored (172), at-bats (755), walks (121), stolen bases (101), and stolen base percentage (.828). He was selected by the New York Yankees in the 12th round of the 1986 MLB Draft and went on to play a combined seven seasons with the Yankees (1992-93), Houston Astros (1994-95), Montreal Expos (1996-97) and the inaugural season of the Arizona Diamondbacks (1998) during his MLB tenure.
The Collegiate National Team is set to play the 45th edition of the USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series at various venues across Japan from July 8-13. The roster will be determined following its annual Stars vs. Stripes series, which will be June 29-July 3 at various venues across North Carolina. Additionally, select players will be chosen to compete in a Fourth of July game against the Appalachian League Select Team in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
The rest of the Collegiate National Team staff will be announced at a later time. For the most up-to-date information on the Collegiate National Team, including additional info about the 2025 schedule, visit USABaseball.com and follow @USABaseballCNT on Twitter/X and @USABaseball on Instagram.
