PRD (4-1) shut out Texas Senators Scout Team (3-1-1) iin a 5-0 victory to advance to the gold medal game of the 16U National Team Championships in North Carolina.PRD jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. It scored the first run of the game in the second inning on a sacrifice bunt from Thomas O'Connell that resulted in a throwing error, which allowed Quinn Bentley to score. Another Texas Senator error in the frame doubled PRD’s score, and a wild pitch followed by Ben Peterson’s RBI single made it 4-0. In the fourth, PRD tacked on one more after an RBI single from Mason Bull, which proved to be enough to seal the victory.
PRD’s Peterson and Texas Senator’s Samuel Stevens both posted multi-hit performances, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Peterson and Bull each picked up an RBI while other PRD hits came from Cole Huett, Griffin Enis, and Finn Whipple.
PRD’s Sam Rosland went 4.0 scoreless innings, yielding two hits with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Texas Senators pitcher Buerkle was charged with the loss as he surrendered an earned run on five hits in 3.0 innings of work.
PRD will face Alpha Prime 25 will play for the title of champion in the gold medal game of the 16U National Team Championships in North Carolina at 11:45 a.m. ET on Coleman Field. Texas Senators Scout Team will play in the bronze medal matchup against Canes Midwest on Field 2 at 11:45 a.m.. Brock Sell went 3-for-3 with two singles, a triple, and two RBIs, as Alpha Prime (4-1-0) took down Canes Midwest (3-2-0), 8-1, in semifinal action at the 2023 16U National Team Championships in North Carolina.
With the victory, Alpha Prime moves on to the gold medal game of the event.
Alpha Prime plated four runs across the first two innings, and used stellar pitching and defensive play to hold Canes Midwest to a lone run in the fourth. A three-run bottom of the fourth and one in the sixth put the game out of reach and allowed Alpha Prime to earn the win.
Cody Kiemele went five full innings, striking out five and allowing one run on two hits. Maverek Russell turned in a 2-for-3 performance in the batter’s box, hitting two singles and recording two RBIs. Kasten also impressed for Alpha Prime, going 2-for-3 with a single, double, and two runs scored. For Canes Midwest, Jaden Fauske went 2-for-2 with two singles and a run scored, while Tristan Wilson was saddled with the loss after surrendering four earned runs in 2.0 innings.
Alpha Prime will face PRD in the gold medal game of the 16U National Team Championships in North Carolina, while Canes Midwest will face Texas Senators 16U scout Team in the bronze medal game.
