CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball today announced the 65-man roster for the 2024 16U/17U National Team Development Program (NTDP), which is set to be held from July 25-28 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The announcement comes following the conclusion of the National Team Championships in Arizona and North Carolina, which serve as primary identification events for the NTDP.
The National Team Development Program offers the nation’s top athletes an opportunity to connect with USA Baseball coaches, task force, and national team staff to better prepare for a future national team experience. Participants will take part in skill development sessions, off-field educational seminars, and a series of intrasquad games to assist in the development of the athletes as both a player and a person.
The 65 players will be split into three teams. The three teams, along with the Canadian Junior National Team, who will be training in Cary for the World Baseball Softball Classic (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier next month, will play in a round-robin format across the four days.
“We are excited welcome this talented group of players to Cary for this year’s National Team Development Program,” said Jim Koerner, USA Baseball’s Director of Player Development. “These players stood out to our task force throughout last year’s National Team Identification Series Champions Cup and this year’s National Team Championships, and we look forward to working with each of them as we continue our mission of developing players for future gold-medal teams.”
The roster is highlighted by eight 15U National Team alums from the 2022 and 2023 squads. Carson Bolemon and Alex Harrington will reunite in Cary after helping the stars and stripes win gold at the 2022 WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico, while Wilson Andersen, Blake Bowen, Jorvorskie Lane Jr., Tucker Long, Samir Mohammed, and Teagan Scott will reconvene at the NTDP after helping Team USA go 5-0 in last year’s International Friendly Series with the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Eight past USA Baseball development program participants will be attending this year’s NTDP. Andersen, Luke Armijo, Bowen, Judson Dowell, and Scott all participated in the 2022 13U/14U Athlete Development Program (ADP), while Dylan Minnatee and Kevin Roberts Jr. are two-time development program participants, as they both attended the ADP in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, Rookie Shepard returns to the NTDP for the second consecutive year after participating in last year’s event.
Twenty-five different states are represented on the 2024 NTDP roster. Florida leads all states with 16 representatives, while California follows with 13. In total, 35 players on the 65-man squad are committed to play collegiate baseball.
Koerner, alongside nationally renowned college pitching coach and USA Baseball coaching veteran Justin Parker, will lead the NTDP as coordinators in 2024. 2002 World Series MVP Troy Glaus, longtime professional manager Dave Trembley, and Grambling State Head Coach Davin Pierre will serve as managers, while a group of established high school and college coaches round out the 12-man coaching staff.
The NTDP roster comprises athletes who were identified from both the 2024 National Team Championships in Arizona and North Carolina, as well as players selected following last year’s National Team Identification Series (NTIS) Champions Cup. These two events serve as the primary identification events for the NTDP, in addition to recommendations from professional scouts, coaches, and the amateur baseball community.
