Cary, N.C. - NC Baseball Academy Red Sox (NCBA) are headed to the 2018 USA Baseball 14U Cup championship game after defeating East Coast Clippers on Sunday by a score 12-6 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
East Coast Clippers looked to be in command for the first third of the game after they held NCBA to no runs over the first two innings and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. NCBA began to battle back in the third inning when they sent three men across the plate to take the lead. The two teams would go on to battle back and forth and the game remained close for much of the action.
NCBA held a comfortable three run lead headed into the sixth inning, but East Coast Clippers showed heart. They put a runner on base, and after a clutch two-run inside-the-park home run by the speedy center fielder Michael Gupton, Elite Coast Clippers found themselves within one run headed into the seventh. But their comeback would fall short after they allowed NCBA to score six runs in the top half of the inning.
NCBA allowed a run in the seventh but otherwise had no issues finishing the game off strong. They will play Game on Roundtrip in the gold medal game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET on Coleman field.
