CARY, N.C. - Southern California got it going in extra innings to capture the 2017 11U National Team Identification Series (NTIS) gold medal 10-5 over Northwest at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina, on Sunday.
Northwest got off to a fast start, putting up four runs in the top of the first courtesy of a double by Malosi Mata afa-Alferos and a two RBI double by David Roberts.
Southern California wouldn't quit though. The squad chipped away at Northern California's early lead throughout the game before the two teams would need extra innings to decide a winner. Lincin Garcia and Noah Franco led at the plate for Southern California. It was a RBI single by Franco and a RBI double by Garcia that got things going offensively in the third for Southern California.
Garcia also proved to be a threat on the mound, allowing just one run in relief for Southern California.
The final innings were back-and-forth until Southern California tied it up in the sixth and kept it there to push the game into extra innings. Southern California dominated at the plate in the eighth, scoring five runs. Gavin Fein, Thomas Bridges, and Alden Aguayo all knocked in runs to cement Southern California's victory and give the squad the gold medal.
