CARY, N.C. – Hawaii’s Kamana Nahaku belted five home runs over a three-game series at Cal State Northridge last weekend to be named USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Week 7 Player of the Week presented by Chinook Seedery and DI Baseball.
Nahaku batted .763 on the week, going 9-for-16 with 12 RBIs and nine runs scored. He started the week with a three-hit outing in midweek action vs. Hawai’i Hilo where he tallied an RBI and two runs scored. In The Rainbow Warriors’ series at CSUN, five of his seven hits were long balls, and he drove in a combined 11 RBIs for the weekend.
After a 2-for-2 showing in the series opening-loss, Nahaku hit a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning to fuel his team to a 9-3 which evened the series with the Matadors. In the series finale he matched the school single-game record for most home runs in a game with three to help the ‘Bows overcome a late six-run deficit and clinch the series with a 14-10 victory.
Nahaku was named the Big West Player of the Week on March 31 following his standout performance at the plate.
