Davidson’s Eli Putnam Named Golden Spikes Player of the Week

CARY, N.C. – Davidson’s Eli Putnam strung together three consecutive four-hit performances in conference play last week to be named USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Week 6 Player of the Week presented by Chinook Seedery and DI Baseball.

Putnam batted .765 on the week, going 13-for-17 with four-hit performances in every game of the Wildcats’ weekend series against VCU. He drove in 14 RBIs and scored 10 runs in four games to compile a .722 on-base percentage, a 1.765 slugging percentage, and a 2.487 OPS. Impressively, he struck out just once in his 17 at-bats.

After tallying a hit in the team’s midweek contest with NC State, he proceeded to go 4-for-5 in all three games against VCU to bat .800 in the series. He had a two-homer game on March 21 with a career-high seven RBIs, then followed it up with a three-homer outing in the series finale on March 23.

Putnam was named the A-10 Player of the Week on March 24 for his standout performance at the plate.
