AS IT HAPPENED:
- Team Red took a 1-0 lead in the second inning thanks to Yodelkis Quevedo, who reached base on a deep triple into right before scoring on a wild pitch.
- Quevdeo’s teammate Connor Salerno was electric on the mound over the first two innings, tallying four strikeouts while allowing just one hit. Team White starter Lawson McLeod nearly matched him, retiring three batters by strikeout against two hits allowed.
- Team Red got its second triple of the game in the third inning, this time from Beau Peterson. Peterson was able to race home and score his team’s second run of the game on an RBI single into left from Jack Woda.
- Four more runs for Team Red came in during the fifth inning, beginning with a Meridian Leffew sac fly with the bases loaded. Quevedo smacked a two-RBI single into left to increase the lead to 5-0, and because he was on base when the inning was rolled another run was added on.
- Noah Spalding tossed two hitless innings for Team Red to collect the win after a near-perfect four innings of work after relieving Salerno. Spalding struck out three batters and allowed just one batter to reach base on a walk.
- Relievers Ethan Armbruster and Peterson also dominated on the mound, as Armbruster threw two hitless innings and Peterson closed the game with a perfect inning. Together they fanned four batters.
NOTABLE STATS:
- Marcus Greiss had the lone hit of the game for Team White, while Rookie Shepherd earned the free pass issued by Spalding.
- Quevedo’s two hits were tied for the most among all players, along with Peterson. Quevedo was the only player to drive in multiple RBIs, finishing with two.
- Woda and Hogan Nelson also collected hits for Team Red.
ABOUT NTDP SCORING:
USA Baseball utilizes a modified scoring system for its development programs to achieve load management and mitigate potential injuries due to overuse for its youth athletes. Pitchers are subject to a maximum pitch count of 25 per inning during game play. In the event an inning is rolled because a pitcher has reached their maximum pitch count, runners on base may be contributed to the game score. As a result of this system, the final game score may not match the overall statistics.
