Former 12U National Team Manager Dave Webb Returns to Cary at the 2025 NHSI

For longtime USA Baseball Coach Dave Webb, the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., holds a special place in his heart. It’s where he’s been a staple with USA Baseball and where he’s about to return—this time with his high school baseball team, the Corona del Sol Aztecs, at the 2025 National High School Invitational (NHSI).

Webb’s return to the complex isn’t just a milestone for him personally, but a reminder of his unparalleled coaching career that spans over 18 years. Renowned for his four gold medals with USA Baseball and his consistent success at the high school level, Webb’s legacy as a coach is one of excellence.

His journey with USA Baseball began in 2007, when he served as an assistant for the 14U National Team. Under his guidance, the team went undefeated, finishing with a perfect 14-0 record. That success wouldn’t be an anomaly in his career either. In 2009, he led the 14U team to a gold medal at the COPABE Pan Am Championships in Ecuador, and, more recently, Webb’s leadership was pivotal in the creation of the inaugural 12U National Team, which saw the team capture gold at the 2013 WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan.

When speaking with Webb, one can see his eyes light up whenever the topic of discussion begins to navigate through his experience with USA Baseball. The tenured coach relishes the opportunity to sport the red, white, and blue and represent his country in such capacity.

“When you’re wearing your country’s name on your chest on the international level you start to realize it's a completely different level of baseball. I try to keep that perspective when I coach my high school team back in Arizona as well.”

Over the years, Webb managed three separate national teams, won USA Baseball’s 2013 Developmental Coach of the Year and compiled a 38-1 record in international play. And, after concluding initial stints with USA Baseball, Webb began to do as he said–carry his national team experiences and success back to Arizona.

Outside of the international circuit, Webb has established himself as one of the most successful high school baseball coaches in the nation. At Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona, Webb has accumulated over 300 wins and an Arizona 5A state championship throughout his coaching career. Additionally, from 2018 to 2020, his Aztecs consistently finished among the top three teams in the state, cementing Webb’s reputation as a coach who builds winners year after year.

Now, Webb is preparing to lead the Aztecs to the USA Baseball complex to compete in the 2025 NHSI after participating in the event in 2019. His leadership and experience are invaluable to the young athletes he coaches, and the opportunity to return to the complex, a place he’s already helped turn into a symbol of success, is one he’s eager to embrace.

“It’s an honor to be at the facility. Knowing that the NHSI has so many accolades and an abundance of people look at it as the greatest high school baseball tournament, being invited is an honor. I want our guys to really soak up the entire experience. We have talented arms across the board and there would be no greater event to make a run at the title than the NHSI.”

Returning to the USA Baseball scene with his high school team is a full-circle moment for Webb. He’s no stranger to the elite stage of the sport, having worked with some of the best young talent in the country and around the world. But now, he’s returning to the field as a high school coach, bringing with him not only decades of experience but the wisdom and perspective that only a career built on mentorship can provide.

For the players on Corona del Sol, having Webb at the helm is an opportunity of a lifetime. Not only do they have the opportunity to play at one of the most prestigious baseball events in the country, but they also possess the rare privilege of learning from a coach who has seen the game at every level, from local high school fields to international stadiums. Webb's experience and insight will be crucial as the Aztecs take on some of the top teams in the country in an attempt to take home an NHSI title.

“Having the opportunity to coach with USA Baseball has strengthened my skills as a coach. I understand different ways to gauge player skills and help develop guys into better people on and off of the field. Playing the game of baseball with respect is an aspect that has been implemented within our team at the high school level and that will most likely be something that helps us move forward.”

As the NHSI approaches, Webb’s return to the USA Baseball complex is not just a chance to continue the legacy of a high-profile coach—it's an opportunity to showcase the talent of his Corona del Sol squad against the best teams the nation has to offer. Whether it’s his four gold medals with USA Baseball or his numerous victories with the Aztecs, an NHSI title would surely add onto an already well-supported legacy.
