Casteel 15, Holly Springs 3 (BOX SCORE)
Casteel (Queen Creek, Ariz.) continued its impressive performance from the plate at the NHSI in Friday’s match with a strong win against Holly Springs (Holly Springs, N.C.) in a rain-shortened four-inning game. The Colts scored 15 runs throughout the game thanks to an eight-run outburst in the top of the third inning. Ryne Barker went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored while also stealing a game-high four bases. On the mound, the Casteel pitching staff combined for four strikeouts while yielding only three hits.
Regis Jesuit 2, Collierville 1 (BOX SCORE)
Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.) nabbed its second win at the 2025 NHSI with a 2-1 victory over Collierville (Collierville, Tenn.) on Coleman Field. Collierville got the scoring started early in the bottom of the first frame when AJ Greene reached on an infield error. Down 1-0 and their backs against the wall, Chase Massey evened the score for Regis Jesuit at one run each with an RBI single to center field. With the score locked at one, Massey added some insurance by reaching on an error to allow Gavin Cronin to cross home. Michael Kroll got the win on the mound for Regis Jesuit, throwing a complete-game one-run contest with six strikeouts.
Granada 5, Edwardsville 0 (BOX SCORE)
Granada (Granada, Calif.) shut out Edwardsville (Edwardsville, Ill.) 5-0 to collect its second win of the 2025 NHSI. All five of its runs came in the first two innings, as the Matadors plated their first three runs on back-to-back walks and a wild pitch in the first inning and an error and RBI double in the second. Granada’s Peyton Richards led all players with a 2-for-4 outing, while Mikey Boyd drew a game-high two walks and scored two runs. Alex Piscotty had a strong outing on the mound to earn the win, as he scattered six hits, walked two batters, and tallied one strikeout across six scoreless innings.
Christopher Columbus 7, The Stony Brook School 3 (BOX SCORE)
Christopher Columbus (Miami, Fla.) scored four unanswered runs en route to beating The Stony Brook School (Stony Brook, N.Y.), 7-3, and improved to 2-1 in the National High School Invitational. The Explorers jumped out to an early lead after a trio of early free passes loaded the bases in the first inning; first, it was Rafael Diaz who put the ball in play to earn the first RBI of the day while he was quickly followed up Alec Cruz’s RBI-bunt single to give Christopher Columbus a three-run lead. The Stony Brook School answered in the home half, loading the bases and setting the stage for its second baseman, Julian Martinez. After Martinez forced a free pass and picked up an RBI, Anthony DeCesare drove a hard ground ball through the left side for a two-RBI double, knotting the score at three apiece after one. After a hectic first frame, Christopher Columbus provided shut down defense and a consistent offense. In the second inning, it was Jose Correra’s two-out single to plate Mario Magna and give the Explorers a 4-3 advantage. Another two-out base knock in the fourth frame tacked on another run for Christopher Columbus, this time as a result of Matthew Fernandez’s line-drive single. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Correa in the sixth plated the team’s sixth run while Aquiles Arzeno’s RBI-double in the seventh gave Christopher Columbus some insurance and a 7-3 lead. The winning pitcher, Dayan Viciedo, took over on the bump in the first inning and proceeded to fire a 7.0 inning, no-hit shutout. Arzeno went 3-for-5, Magana went 2-for-3, and the team’s seven RBIs were spread amongst six players. The Stony Brooks’ Jordan Serrano and DeCesare each picked up a hit in today’s contest.
Corona del Sol 6, Poly Prep 1 (BOX SCORE)
A five-run sixth inning powers Corona del Sol (Tempe, Ariz.) past Poly Prep (Brooklyn, N.Y.), 6-1, on the third day of competition at the 2025 NHSI in Cary, North Carolina. Poly Prep opened the scoring in the first inning, as Felix Heller drilled a two-out, 0-2 offering to left field, plating Owen ten Oever who reached on a leadoff walk. Corona del Sol’s Jaiden Lo Re evened the score at 1-1 after thwacking a 1-0 offering through the right side in the third inning. A five-run outburst in the sixth inning led Corona del Sol to victory, however, as the team’s bats finally found its groove. Conor Rae drove in the first run and was followed up by back-to-back RBI base hits from Gabriel Becho-Garcia and Maddon DelaCruz. David Moss capped the rally off with a hard ground ball that found the outfield grass to make it 6-1 and secure Corona del Sol’s second victory of the week.
