14U Champs North Carolina Day One Roundup

CANES NATIONAL 14U 8, ALPHA PRIME 0

Canes National (1-0) used nifty base running and 15 free bases to take the mercy-rule victory over Alpha Prime 2027 (0-1) in the first round of pool play games this morning at the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

With the win, Canes National cashed in its first victory of the tournament en route to two more pool play games.

Canes jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first thanks to a two-run single from Jose Doubront to score Caleb Hudson and Christopher Wall, who walked and singled, respectively, to reach base. Dubront scored on a passed ball a few pitches later for Canes to take the three-run lead after the first. Canes struck again in the third when four straight walks, a hit batter, and a myriad of wild pitches led to two runs, scoring Hudson and Wall. A sac fly from Barrett Standley scored Doubront while Connor Greb scored on a wild pitch. The third inning was capped off by the eighth run, which came on another sacrifice fly from Andrew Davis to score Finn Moore. The offense continued in the top of the fifth when Moore was hit by a pitch and Jael Castillo doubled the pair into scoring position, but were stranded to head into the bottom frame.  

Each team had just three hits apiece. For Canes, the hits came from Wall, Doubront, and Castillo, and Royal McKinney, Antonio Cuevas, and Chase Johnson were responsible for Alpha Prime’s hits.

Erick J Jimenez was credited with the win after going 3.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts, while only surrendering three hits. Carson Bruce earned the save, striking out two in 1.1 innings. Joseph Contreras wore the loss after tossing 2.0 innings with two hits, but it was the seven walks, and the 12 walks as a staff, that allowed Canes National to take the victory.

Canes National will face UDACF Evolution for its second game of the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina. The game is slated for 11:30 a.m. on Field 4. STACKED BASEBALL 2 , PRD 1

Taytum Reeves went 1-for-3 with a home run to lead Stacked Baseball (1-0-0) to a 2-1 victory over PRD (0-1-0) in the opening game of the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

With the win, Stacked begins the tournament with an undefeated record.

PRD jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly from Brodie Campbell. The next four innings went scoreless with the two pitching staffs combining for 14 strikeouts. Stacked managed to tie the game in the top of the sixth with an RBI groundout by Tanner Brown. An inning later, Reeves blasted a home run over the left field wall that gave Stacked a 2-1 advantage. Andrew Jimenez entered the game on the mound in the bottom of the frame and struck out all three batters he faced to secure the victory for Stacked.

Aiden Escobedo went 2-for-3 with a single and a double to lead the Stacked offense. Jimenez also contributed a double in addition to his performance on the mound. Ever Pforzheimer threw 1.2 innings in relief for Stacked and struck out three of the six batters he faced. Ryan Trout threw the first 6.2 innings for PRD and struck out eight batters. Brady Guzzie, Curt Friedrich, Ian Chafin, and Luke McAtee all collected base hits for PRD.

Stacked Baseball will take on East Coast Sox Scout at Coleman Field for its second game of the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina. PRD will match up against USA Prime National on Field 2. First pitch is set for 11:15 a.m. for both contests. UDACF EVOLUTION 10, SBA NATIONAL 2027 1

Aiden Jones went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a walk to carry UDACF Evolution (1-0) to a 10-1 victory over SBA National 2027 (0-1) in opening round action of the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

With bases loaded in the first, Jones knocked one down the first base line to pick up a three-run triple then stole home on a wild pitch to give Evolution the early 4-0 lead. SBA National added its only run in the third, as John Hucko drew a leadoff walk for Rico Collins to get an RBI single to right field. Evolution batted around the lineup in the third to add four insurance runs off four walks and a single from Jacob Carrasco. With the bases loaded in the fourth, Stevie Wellens singled on a hard ground ball to left to score Jones, followed by a fielder’s choice to score Ryan Yormack to run rule SBA National 10-1.

Evolution registered eight hits with Carrasco hot in the lineup, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. 

Evolution’s starting pitcher Derek Yormack (1-0) pitched four innings of three-hit baseball to pick up the victory, striking out seven batters and walking three. Will Parrish (0-1) was credited with the loss for SBA National after giving up four earned runs in two innings pitched.

UDACF Evolution will face Canes National 14U at 11:30 a.m. on Field 4 to continue pool play of the 14U National Team Championships. USA PRIME NATIONAL 14U 7, EAST COAST SOX SCOUT 1

A seventh inning barrage added plenty of cushion for USA Prime in a convincing 7-1 victory over East Coast Sox in the first round of pool play at the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

East Coast Sox gained its only lead of the contest in the third, as back-to-back walks initiated the inning and placed Noah Williams in scoring position. A fielder’s choice followed by a wild pitch then allowed the second baseman to score. USA Prime battled back in the next frame, as Javorski Lane Jr. recorded the first hit of the contest with a RBI line-drive double to score the leadoff man. A dropped third strike and four free passes ensued, with two more runs scoring as a result of a passed ball and a bases-loaded walk. USA Prime plated another run in the fifth after a wild pitch permitted Matthew Kelley, who reached on a leadoff walk, to make it a 4-1 ball game. Maddux Lessard added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI shot up the middle but the scoring did not stop there, as JT Girod added two more runs to the run column with a well placed hit to shallow left.

Lessard drove in a run and scored twice for USA Prime, reaching base three times via a free pass as well. Lane Jr. contributed an RBI with a double as he went 1-for-3 and Girod knocked in two runs for USA Prime in his 1-for-3 outing. Sayler Melton provided 3.0 strong innings of relief for USA Prime, as he conceded only two hits, no walks, and no runs. Brody Vicknair and Deuce Jenkins collected a hit apiece for East Coast Sox.

USA Prime National 14U continues pool play and will next face PRD at 11:15 a.m. on Field 2. East Coast Sox Scout will compete against Stacked Baseball at 11:15 a.m. on Coleman Field in round two of pool play. SBA NATIONAL 2027 8, ALPHA PRIME 2027 2

Matty Carroll helped carry SBA National 2027 to an 8-2 victory over Alpha Prime 2027, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk, in the second game of pool play at the 14U 2023 National Team Championships in North Carolina.

SBA National got on the board early with a 2-0 lead in the first after a balk by pitcher John Hucko, followed by an RBI single from Carroll to score Cartson Wedemeyer. Roman Martinez launched one deep into center field to pick up a two-run RBI double in the second and extend the lead to 4-0. Alpha Prime got on the board in the fifth when David Haggerty tagged up on a sacrifice fly from Carson Calvo, and again in the sixth on an error. SBA National added four runs in the fifth on back-to-back doubles and a triple to seal the 8-2 victory over Alpha Prime. 

Martinez came in clutch in SBA National’s lineup, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Brock Bumgardner, Carroll, and Martinez each had a double on the day, contributing to SBA’s seven total hits.

Cash Gerecke went 2-for-2 at the plate and was credited the loss for Alpha Prime after giving up four earned runs in three innings pitched. SBA’s Hucko was credited with the win as he tossed 2.2 innings with four strikeouts in shutout fashion.

SBA National 2027 will face Canes National 14U Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Coleman Field to continue pool play at the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina. DULINS DODGERS PRIME 5, WOW FACTOR NATIONAL 0

Dulins Dogers Prime (1-0) got off to a strong start at the 14U National Team Championships North Carolina on Thursday with a 5-0 shutout victory over Wow Factor National at Durham Athletic Park.

Dulins Dodgers plated its first three runs in the second inning. After a leadoff walk by Hadley Levi Leathers and single from Jackson Bernosky put runners at first and second, Carson Branch's two-RBI triple to center field allowed both runners to cross home plate. Mark Ramos capped off the scoring in the frame by driving in Branch from third on an infield single. The squad tacked on its final two runs of the game in the third when Landon Schmidt scored on Leathers' double to right field, and then Leathers scored on Jake Usrey's double through the left side in the next at-bat.

Ramos paced the Dulins Dodgers offense with a 2-for-3 outing and an RBI, while six other batters tallied a hit to contribute to the team's eight. Meanwhile, four different players from Wow Factor National recorded a hit. Coleman was credited with the win after tossing 6.0 shutout innings, while Zachary Tavarez was saddled with the loss after surrendering five earned runs.

Both teams will continue action Friday at 8:00 a.m., as Dulins Dodgers Prime facing Kangaroo Court Roos American on Coleman Field and Wow Factor National will match up with ZT Prospects National on Field 2. STACKED BASEBALL 3, EAST COAST SOX 0

Taytum Reeves went 2-for-3 with a single and a triple to lead Stacked Basbeall (2-0-0) to a 3-0 win over East Coast Sox (0-2-0) in the second game of pool play at the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

With the victory, Stacked remains undefeated with a 2-0 record after one day of action.

After a scoreless first inning from both squads, Stacked was able to take an early lead in the second. Jaxon Olmstead picked up an RBI with a single to center field that scored a run from third. Reeves extended the Stacked lead in the fourth with a base hit to right field that scored two runs and established a 3-0 score. East Coast Sox put runners on in the seventh, but Elyjah Mason struck out his fourth batter of the game to secure the victory for his team in the top of the seventh.

In addition to an impressive offensive performance, Reeves threw 3.0 innings in relief for Stacked and struck out eight of the ten batters he faced, allowing just one hit. Olmstead also turned in a solid performance for Stacked, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. East Coast Sox reliever Noah Williams struck out three batters in one inning of action. Trent Buckley and Stephen Bobo each collected a base hit for East Coast Sox. 

Stacked Baseball will face USA Prime National Friday for day two action at the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina. First pitch is set for 8:00 a.m. at the Durham Athletic Park. UDACF EVOLUTION 3, CANES NATIONAL 14U 3

Canes National 14U (1-0-1) and UDACF Evolution ended in a 3-3 tie in a last minute effort after the time limit had expired at the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

With this tie, both teams moved to a 1-0-1 record, after each secured a run-rule victory in the first round of games in Cary.Evolution scored its first run on a bases-loaded walk to Aiden Jones that plated Stevie Wellens. It wasn’t until the fifth inning until another run crossed the plate, as an error from Canes on Ryan Yormack’s grounder scored Wellens and Mateo Lopez to increase the lead to three. In the bottom of the inning, Canes made it a one-run game which came on Joseph Doubront getting hit by a pitch, a single from Barrett Standley, and two-run single from Yariel Lito Diaz which cut the deficit to one. In the bottom of the sixth with one out, Canes tied it up on a walk from Christopher Wall who was doubled in by Doubront. The time limit for the contest then expired, forcing the game to end in a tie.

The two hits for Evolution came from Kyler Meccage and Jones, while Canes National picked up five hits.  Doubront went 2-for-2 for Canes and Lito Diaz went a perfect 1-for-1. The other hits came from Finn Moore and Standley to help aid in the eventual tie.

Starter Max Boehm went 4.1 innings for Evolution while only giving up three hits and striking out two. Graham Keen and Nicholas Mondesando, in relief, went a combined 1.2 innings with only one early run and one strikeout. The staff of Colton Christman, Lito Diaz, and Jael Castillo went the distance with only one earned run and a combined nine strikeouts. 

Canes National 14U will face SBA National 2027 for its last game of the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina Friday, which is set for 1:30 p.m. on Coleman Field. UDACF Evolution will play its last pool play game against Alpha Prime 2027 at 1:30 p.m. on Coleman Field. PRD 7, USA PRIME NATIONAL 14U 6

PRD’s (1-1) Nathaniel Fuller went 2-for-3 with five RBI’s en route to a 7-6 victory over USA Prime National 14U (1-1) at the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

PRD put the pressure on early, scoring four of its six runs in the first frame. PRD quickly loaded the bases and took advantage, as Nathaniel Fuller crushed a two-out offering and cleared the bases with a double. Ian Chafin tacked on one more run with an RBI single that just fell out of the USA Prime outfielder’s glove. PRD resumed scoring in the third as did Fuller’s dominant day at the plate, his two-out single drove in a pair and widened the team’s lead by six. USA Prime did damage in the home half of the fourth after Javorski Lane Jr. fought back from an 0-2 count and notched his team’s first hit in the form of a leadoff double. Maddux Lessard’s RBI single brought Lane Jr. home to score and was followed by a single and a walk to load the bases. A two-RBI base knock by JT Girod cut the deficit in half and was subsequently followed by Jordan Griffin’s two-RBI triple. Matthew Kelley delivered a clutch two-out, RBI base hit to knot the contest at 6-6. In an inning that saw three walks and one hit-by-pitch, PRD regained the lead in the fifth after a bases-loaded walk brought home the go-ahead run.

Fuller led the PRD squad offensively, as he went 2-for-2 while scoring a run and amassing an astounding five RBI’s. Cullen Weller and Joshua Burkholder each scored twice for PRD. USA Prime’s Griffin reached base all four times he was at the plate, as he was 2-for-2 and scored a run. Lessard had a 2-for-2 day in which he batted in and scored a run for USA Prime.

PRD’s final pool play contest will be against East Coast Sox Scout at 10:45 a.m. Friday at Durham Athletic Park, while USA Prime National 14U next plays Stacked Baseball Friday at 8:00 a.m. at Durham Athletic Park. ZT PROSPECTS NATIONAL 7, KANGAROO COURT ROOS AMERICAN 0

ZT Prospects National (1-0) used a five-run second to down Kangaroo Court Roos American (0-1), 7-0, in the first round of pool play of the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina on Thursday at Durham Athletic Park.

ZT Prospects struck early when Carter Hadnot led off the game with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Ayden Coleman's sacrifice fly to right field. The squad extended its lead to 6-0 in the second on run-scoring singles by Angel Acuna, Ricardo Hurtado, and Broder Katke, as well as a bases-loaded walk. ZT Prospects added a late run in the seventh when Joshua Priest drove in Coleman on a sacrifice fly to left field.

The ZT Prospects pitching staff combined to limit Kangaroo Court to two hits while fanning seven batters. Hurtado earned the win after tossing 2.2 innings hitless in relief with a game-high three strikeouts. Katke paced his team's offense with a 2-for-4 outing with two RBIs.

ZT Prospects National and Kangaroo Court Roos American will resume pool play Friday at 10:45 a.m. on Coleman Field and Field 2, respectively. ZT Prospects will play Dulins Dodgers Prime while Kangaroo Court will match up with Wow Factor National 14U. TOP TIER SELECT 8, DIRTBAGS NATIONAL 7

Matt Ritchie went 2-for-4 with the walk-off hit to lead Top Tier Select (1-0-0) to an 8-7 victory over Dirtbags National (0-1-0) on day one of the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

With the win, Top Tier Select begins the tournament with an undefeated record.

Dirtbags National jumped out to an early lead in the top of the opening inning thanks to an RBI groundout by Holt Gaston. Top Tier National responded in the bottom of the frame, plating four runs off of two sacrifice flies and an RBI double by Ty Lillpop. In the second, Xavier Perez followed up with a base hit that scored three more runs and established a 7-1 lead. Caleb Lynn and Gaston each picked up RBI singles in the third for Dirtbags National that narrowed the lead to 7-3. A pop out and a single by Chappy Smith scored two more runs and set the score at 7-5 in the fourth. Two scoreless innings followed before Dirtbags National managed to tie the game in the top of the seventh after a Cooper Partin single allowed two runs to score. Top Tier was able to score its first run since the second inning in the bottom of the seventh to secure the walk-off victory. With runners on, Ritchie hit a hard grounder down the third base line that scored the game-winning run to give Top Tier the 8-7 win.

Lillpop went 2-for-4 with a single, double, two RBIs, and a stolen base for Top Tier Select. Perez also had an impressive day for Top Tier, going 2-for-3 with two base hits and three RBIs. Samuel Chin threw four innings and accounted for three punch outs for Top Tier. On the mound for Dirtbags National, Hudson Tuttle struck out four batters across four innings of work. Partin led the Dirtbags offense, going 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk. Gaston contributed two base hits, two RBIs, and a stolen base for Dirtbags.

Top Tier will face Team Elite Friday for day two of the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina, with first pitch set for 8:00 a.m. on Field 4. 2027 TEXAS TWELVE 5, TEAM ELITE 5

A late game comeback was not enough for a Team Elite (0-0-1) win, as it forced a tie against 2027 Texas Twelve (0-0-1), 5-5, at the 14U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

After a quiet first inning, Texas Twelve turned it up a notch and put up a five spot in the second inning. Dylan Stallones kicked off the rally with a leadoff single, and quickly got into scoring position after a walk was issued to the following batter. A throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt drove in the initial run for Texas Twelve. An RBI single by Ethan Kerze followed by a passed ball put the home team up by three. Center fielder Elijah Ramirez was the next batter and swung at the first pitch he saw, hitting a two-RBI single to shallow left. Team Elite bounced back in its half of the third, as a Jared Grindlinger RBI single plated the team’s first run. Teagan Scott’s sacrifice fly in addition to an RBI line-drive off the bat of Mason Diamond made it a 5-3 ball game. After reaching on a leadoff double in the sixth frame, Bryan Miller came around to score on a wild pitch for Team Elite’s fourth run. Down to its last two outs, Grindlinger delivered a clutch RBI base knock for Team Elite in the top of the seventh to tie the contest at 5-5.

Ramirez led the way offensively for Texas Twelve, batting in two runs in his 1-for-4 outing. Texas Twelve’s Kerze went 1-for-2 and gathered an RBI in addition to a run scored. Stallones was perfect on the day for Texas Twelve, as he collected a run scored and base hit in his one at-bat. JC Pacheco had a notable day at the plate and on the mound for Team Elite, as he went 2-for-3 and scored once while pitching 2.1 shutout innings of two-hit ball. Grindlinger contributed to the effort as well, as he scored a run and drove in a pair in his 2-for-3 performance. Colt Babic scored twice and was 2-for-2 with a pair of singles for Team Elite.

2027 Texas Twelve will play its second pool play contest against Dirtbags National 14U Friday at 8:00 a.m. on Field 3, while Team Elite will face Top Tier Select at 8:00 a.m. Friday on Field 4.
