CARY, N.C. - The second semifinal of the 2018 10U Futures Invitational was a back and forth contest between Canes Baseball and ATP National with Canes coming out on top, 4-2, on Saturday at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina. With the win, Canes Baseball advanced to Sunday's gold medal game.
Canes Baseball got on the board first in the game when they took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first courtesy of an ATP National error. But ATP had a quick answer in the bottom half of the frame.
A leadoff walk came around to score and tie things up for ATP after a double and a groundout. The team then took the lead with a RBI single from B Morrison.
Neither team would get anything going until the end of the game, when the Canes came roaring back in the fifth. A single through the right side from Colton Haire tied the game at two before Miguel Delgado roped a double to plate two more and give the Canes a 4-2 lead.
ATP National looked to walk it off with a rally in the bottom of the sixth when the team got two runners on after a hit-by-pitch and a single. But a double play ended the threat and secured the victory for Canes.
David Lee came in in relief for the Canes to shut down ATP, allowing just one hit through four stellar innings of work. Delgado finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored for Canes Baseball in the victory, while Marcus Greis and Branden Carrillo both recorded multi-hit games for ATP National.
Canes Baseball will now play the Victory Braves at 11 a.m. ET in the 10U Futures Invitational gold medal game on Sunday at Thomas Brooks Park Field 7. ATP National will match up against Wilson Sandlot in the event's third place game at 8:15 a.m. ET on Sunday at Thomas Brooks Park.
