MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – USA Baseball today announced the roster for the 2024 Women’s National Team, following the completion of the Women’s National Team Training Camp. The squad will now shift its sights and compete in the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals in Thunder Bay, Ontario, July 28-August 3.
“After a great week of training, we are ecstatic to name the twenty players that will join us in our search for a world title,” said Women’s National Team Program Director Ann Claire Roberson. “This was one of the most competitive camps we have held and I have no doubt these players will step up to the challenge of playing away from home and on a big stage. We are excited to see what this team brings to the table as we shift our focus to the next steps required to ensure a gold medal comes home with us from Canada.”
Following a series of workouts, practices, and intrasquad scrimmages, the final 20-player team has been finalized and features familiar faces along with a lone newcomer. Among the 20 players named, 17 were members of last summer’s WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup qualifying team.
The quest for gold begins with seasoned-veterans Anna Kimbrell, Maggie Meidlinger, and Kelsie Whitmore. Together, they have a combined 29 years of experience on the Women’s National Team.
Other players include rising stars such as Alex Hugo, Kylee Lahners, and Ashton Lansdell, who will each be playing for Team USA for the fifth time. Denae Benites will be making her fourth appearance on the national team while up-and-coming standouts Olivia Pichardo and Naomi Ryan earned a roster spot for their third and second time, respectively.
Jillian Albayati, Jamie Baum, Elise Berger, Niki Eckert, Alana Martinez, and Remi Schaber each secured a spot on the Women’s National Team roster for a third time as well.
Rounding out the roster is Beth Greenwood and Valerie Perez, who are putting on the stars and stripes for the second year in a row, while Sophia Broderick will be making her first national team appearance.
Managing the Women’s National Team is five-time Team USA player and three-time manager Veronica Alvarez. She is joined by pitching coach Rey Mendoza, and assistant coaches Alex Oglesby and Malaika Underwood. Among the decorated staff is no shortage of wisdom, as the veteran-led team is filled with plenty of professional and amateur experience.
The Women’s National Team will stay in town and continue to train at Siebert Field, University of Minnesota’s baseball facility, from July 22-24 until the squad hits the road and competes in its first game against Venezuela on July 28th.
