CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball today announced the roster for the 2024 Women’s National Team Training Camp, taking place July 16-20 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Thirty-eight women hailing from 23 different states will convene in the Twin Cities and compete in a five-day long Training Camp that will conclude with a final 20-player roster.
This marks the next step in the Women’s National Team’s quest for a gold medal at the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Baseball World Cup, which began with the U.S. posting a perfect 5-0 record in the 2023 Group Stage. Last summer’s performance qualified Team USA for a spot in the 2024 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals from July 28-August 3 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
“We are very excited to announce the thirty-eight players attending this year’s Training Camp,” said Women’s National Team Program Director Ann Claire Roberson. “These players will have the opportunity to continue to learn from some of the best as we set our sights on bringing a world title home from Canada. We are very much looking forward to seeing some familiar faces along with some newcomers to our program starting tomorrow in Minneapolis.”
The selection process will consist of a series of workouts, practices, and intrasquad scrimmages held at Siebert Field, the home venue for the University of Minnesota’s baseball program. The Women’s National Team Training Camp squad will also have a major-league opportunity to play at Target Field, the Minnesota Twins’ 39,504 seat ballpark.
Following the conclusion of Training Camp on July 20, the final Women’s National Team roster will then travel to Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, for the 2024 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals where Team USA is slated to kick off its five-game Final Stage slate against Venezuela on July 28.
Among the 38 women on the Training Camp roster, 23 are Women’s National Team alumni, including nearly every member of last year’s Team USA team that went 5-0 during the group stage.
The Women’s National Team Training Camp roster includes a seasoned batch of veterans, including: 11-time Women’s National Team alum Anna Kimbrell, eight-time competitors Kelsie Whitmore and Michelle Cobb, and Meggie Meidlinger who will be aiming to make her seventh appearance in the red, white, and blue.
The roster also features six newcomers to USA Baseball’s Women’s National Team Program: Jordan Andreas, Sophia Broderick, Demi Chaney, Ashley Fleenor, Keira Izumi, and Luciana Moreno.
At the helm is five-time Team USA player and three-time manager Veronica Alvarez, alongside pitching coach Rey Mendoza, and assistant coaches Alex Oglesby and Malaika Underwood. Alvarez brings a plethora of experience to the table, as she currently serves as a member of the Oakland Athletics’ Latin American Development team in addition to recently being named Girls’ Baseball Ambassador for Major League Baseball.
During Training Camp, the coaching staff will be joined by USA Baseball’s Director of Player Development Jim Koerner, Women’s National Team alumni Jenny Dalton-Hill and Tamara Holmes, and two-time 15U National Team Assistant Coach Manny Crespo Jr.
