Wake Forest’s Marek Houston Named Golden Spikes Player of the Week

CARY, N.C. – Following an impressive opening weekend at the plate, Wake Forest’s Marek Houston has been named USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Week 1 Player of the Week presented by Chinook Seedery and DI Baseball.

Houston helped the 13th-ranked Demon Deacons go 4-0 on the weekend with two wins apiece over LIU and Marist. Over four games, Houston turned in a .714 batting average with 10 runs (including three home runs), 11 runs scored, and 13 RBIs. Additionally, he compiled a .789 on-base percentage and 1.429 slugging percentage, as he only struck out once in 14 at bats.

A member of the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List and a Preseason All-American by all five major publications, Houston managed to turn in multi-hit and multi-RBI outings in all four games.
