Three Shutouts Highlight Early Morning 16U Champs NC Quarterfinal Slate

Led by a no-hitter from The Show National's Jake Carbaugh, the top seeded teams at this year's tournament rolled to the semifinals.

Aces National 6, MBA Scout Team 1

Powered by a tidy shift on the mound from Hudson Franks and opportune hitting, Aces National rolled to a 6-1 win over MBA Scout Team and into the semifinals. Franks went all seven innings, retiring six batters and limiting MBA Scout Team to five hits and a lone earned run. Aces struck first in the second inning, scoring the opening two runs on a combination of an RBI triple from Jalen Moton and a defensive error. MBA cut the lead to 2-1 with an RBI triple of its own from Jordan Martinez in the third, leading to a tense two innings before Aces National pulled away in the sixth inning with a five-run outburst. A bases-loaded walk handed the Aces a two-run lead, before Hudson Alpert drove in a pair of runs on a line drive single. Another bases-loaded walk scored the final run of the game in the seventh inning for Aces National.

The Show National 6, Canes National 0

Led by a stellar no-hitter from pitcher Jake Carbaugh, The Show National cruised to a 6-0 win over Canes National to advance to the semifinals. Carbaugh was untouchable in seven innings of action, almost hurling a perfect game with the only blemish being a lone walk allowed. He racked up eight strikeouts, keeping Canes National stranded while The Show’s offense went to work. The Show struck first in the bottom of the third inning, with an RBI double into right driving in the opening run before Hudson Reed added two more on another double, this time into left. Another run would come in on a single in the fifth inning, before Luke Manderson capped off the win with a bang by crushing a two-run home run into left during the sixth inning.

USA Prime National 10, Legacy Baseball 0

USA Prime National wasted no time in punching its ticket to the semifinals, plating six runs in the opening inning and adding more in the third to cruise to a 10-0 win in four innings. USA Prime slashed four hits for extra bases in the bottom of the first, with Luke Williams and Chandler Hart reaching on doubles while Connor Comeau and Lorenzo Laurel drove in RBIs with a double and triple, respectively. Keaton Neal and Hudson Brzustewicz added RBI singles, while Brzustewicz also stole home to make it 5-0. A bases-loaded walk earned USA Prime its sixth run, and happened again in the third inning for the team’s seventh. Brzustewicz stole home again in the third, just before Jorvorskie Lane Jr. launched a two-RBI triple into right to give Alpha Prime a 10-0 lead. On the mound for the victors, CJ Sampson kept Legacy hitless through 3.2 innings to help preserve the lead. He finished with three strikeouts and three hits allowed in 4.0 innings of work, earning the win.

Alpha Prime 6, Team Elite 0

Dax Hardcastle nearly hurled the second no-hitter in the quarterfinal slate, allowing just a base hit and three walks in seven innings of work as Alpha Prime defeated Team Elite 6-0. Striking out six batters, Hardcastle stymied Team Elite’s bats all morning as the Alpha Prime offense quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead. A bases-loaded walk opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning before the bats got hot in the second inning. Julian Cazares roped an RBI triple into left to make it 2-0, followed by an RBI single from Jack Moseley and a two-RBI single from Marcus Greis to put Alpha Prime up 5-0. The final run came in in the sixth inning, thanks to another RBI single from Matthew Maxon.
