Stacked Baseball Outlasts MBA Navy, Wins Bronze at 14U Champs Arizona

Just a couple weeks after Stacked took home gold at the 15 National Team Championships in Arizona, Stacked Baseball claimed bronze at the 14U competition after downing MBA Navy in Surprise, Arizona.

While both teams kept their opponents off the board for the majority of the game, Stacked struck first and last in the bronze medal bout, edging MBA Navy out in a 4-3 win at 14U Champs Arizona.

Both teams were led by their respective starting pitchers who put up strong starts. MBA’s Mason Glauser threw a complete six-inning game on championship day while Stacked’s Liam Friedman was on the mound for all but one of his team’s outs.

Both pitchers got off to hot starts, each forcing five straight innings of no-run baseball in the quick-moving bronze medal match. Both let their defenses work — Glauser earned three punchouts on the day while Friedman flamed six.

While both offenses were stymied early, Stacked’s bats woke up first in the bottom of the fifth. After recording just three hits until that point, Stacked quickly put runners on base via a hit-by-pitch and single. Just a few at-bats later, a sacrifice fly and another single brought the score to 3-0.

However, MBA immediately countered with a three-run frame of its own in the top of the next inning. The team recorded three hits, two of which were for extra bases in its loud top of the sixth. A single and double got the comeback started for MBA Navy, one walk later, the bases were loaded and a single from second baseman Luke Robley scored the team’s first run of the day.

Just one pitch later, a triple from first baseman Dakota Pound scored two more, and Stacked and MBA Navy were quickly back to a deadlock.

However, Stacked had a response of its own. To break the 3-3 tie, an RBI-double from Warren Wulfemeyer plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth frame. Thanks to Friedman and closing pitcher Oliver Dauskurdas, who fired the final out of the game, Stacked held on to its slim, one-run lead for a bronze medal victory.
