PEORIA, Ariz.- After a slow start, the Trosky Baseball offense came to life to defeat California Prospects Team Rawlings in five innings, 10-0, at Mariners 4 at Peoria Sports Complex on Monday.
All but two Trosky batters reached in the contest. Johnny Tarantino blasted an RBI triple, his first of two RBI, and scored a run to help propel Trosky in a big six-run fourth inning.
Trosky's Dudoit scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, crossing on a wild pitch by Prospects starter Martin Haswell.
Zack Malone singled in the bottom of the inning for Prospects, but a nicely turned double play by Trosky ended the scoring threat.
Campbell would increase the Trosky lead to three in the third after a two-RBI single would score Makana Olaso and Max Mendoza.
Trosky would break things open in the fourth, beginning with a Carson McKinney RBI single to left. Trevor Haskins would follow suit with a single before Olaso would drive in McKinney on a line drive to center. Mendoza added a single of his own, scoring Haskins before Tarantino would triple to drive in one more. Dudoit would add the sixth run of the inning, doubling over the left fielder's head.
Tarantino would walk to force home a run in the fifth, increasing the lead to 10 for Trosky going into the bottom of the inning.
Prospects threatened to score with a pair of hits in the frame off reliever Tate Shimao, but nothing came of them, as the run rule was enforced with the 10-run lead.
Trosky starter Ben Zeigler had a nice line, tossing 4.0 innings of one-hit baseball. He walked one Prospects batter and struck out five.
Haswell allowed just one hit in 2.2 innings, but four walks allowed for runners to occupy the bases. He did strike out four in the game.
Both teams will play again tomorrow, with times and matchups to be determined later today.
