Players who have previously donned the stars and stripes are making impacts at every level, from high school to the pros. WEEK OF APRIL 13
College/Prep
- Levi Clark (2023 18U) collected three extra-base hits and went deep twice as part of his 3-for-4, four RBI day as Tennessee salvaged the series finale against Ole Miss on Sunday in Knoxville.
- Gavin Grahovac (2017 12U, 2022 18U, 2024 CNT) has been automatic at the plate as of late and provided a spark to Texas A&M’s offense against LSU in Baton Rouge. In the team’s three-game sweep, Grahovac batted .375, homered twice, and drove in four runs. The three-time alum is riding a 13-game hit streak and has homered 10 times during that stretch.
- Mercer’s Chris Katz (2015 12U) had a monster performance in a three-game sweep of Towson, homering in each game to push his total to 12 on the year. Katz was 4-for-12 with four RBIs and four runs on the series, with his second walk-off home run of the season coming in the tenth inning on Saturday.
- Despite dropping the second game of the series against Ole Miss, Tennessee’s Tegan Kuhns (2023 18U) put forth an impressive outing on the bump, allowing no runs and fanning 10 batters in 5.2 innings of work.
- Utah secured a series sweep against Texas Tech and Cal Miller (2021 15U) helped the Utes surge with a three-hit performance on Sunday. Miller homered to kickstart the series and notched a 3-for-5, three RBI performance on Friday before belting another home run on Sunday.
- Ethan Puig (2021 15U) posted back-to-back three-hit outings as Appalachian State swept James Madison in a three-game set, highlighted by Puig’s 3-for-5, four RBI day on Sunday.
- In Oklahoma State’s first two games of the week, Campbell Smithwick (2022 18U) stole the show, collecting five hits, five RBIs, and three home runs as the Cowboys picked up wins against Oklahoma and Kansas.
- Cade Townsend (2022 18U) turned in a third straight quality start for Ole Miss, tossing six shutout frames of one-hit ball, punching out seven as the Rebels powered past Tennessee, 8-1, Saturday afternoon.
- Dominic Voegle (2024 CNT) had a career-high 15 strikeouts on April 18 as part of his seven-inning performance to help Kansas even its series against Oklahoma State. He became the first Jayhawk since at least 2002 to record at least 15 strikeouts in a game.
Professional
- A lopsided 11-2 victory for the Chicago Cubs over Philadelphia on April 15 was highlighted by an all-around performance from Nico Hoerner. The 2012 15U alum went yard in his 3-for-5, five RBI performance, also swiping a bag and scoring two runs at Citizen's Bank Park.
- Josh Jung (2018 CNT) has been a consistent bright spot for the Rangers this month, as he is batting .385 with six multi-hit games. The month has been highlighted by back-to-back three-hit games on April 16 and 17 when he hit a combined four doubles and a home run.
- Yohandy Morales (2013 12U, 2018 18U, 2022 CNT) had an electric week at the plate for the Rochester Red Wings, collecting 10 hits with three multi-hit outings. He was named the Homestand Player of the Week by the organization for his hot hitting.
- Paul Skenes (2014 12U, 2021 & 2022 CNT, 2026 WBC) eclipsed a milestone on April 13 by becoming the first Pirates pitcher in the Modern Era with at least 400 strikeouts in his first 59 career starts. This milestone came after he threw four scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
- 2024 Premier12 Team alum Ryan Ward made his big league debut on April 19 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He collected two hits and an RBI in the eventful day.
- The New York Yankees started 2017 18U National Team alum Ryan Weathers on Sunday in the Bronx, who twirled a shutout gem against the Kansas City Royals. Weathers surrendered five hits as he fired 7.1 innings and struck out eight.
