Cary, N.C. - Southeast defeated Northern California on Sunday to take home the 2018 National Team Identification Series 14U Champions Cup gold medal at Coleman Field in Cary, North Carolina.

Northern California came out of the gates hot. Luis Martinez singled in the top of the first inning to drive in the first run of the game, but the Northern California advantage would not last long.
Southeast quickly answered back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning when Tyrus Williams came home to score on a dropped third strike. 
In the top of the second inning, Northern California regained the lead courtesy of a bases loaded walk, putting them up 2-1. Again, it would not last long as Southeast looked to be on a mission.
In the bottom of the second, Southeast would tie the game at two after Termarr Johnson walked on five pitches. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Southeast took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Dawson Campbell to drive in Tyrus Williams.
Southeast would go on to hold the lead for the rest of the ballgame.
On the defensive side of the ball, Southeast pitcher Evan Dobias began to settle down in the middle innings after the shaky start to the ballgame, and he would not allow a runner to cross the plate for the rest of the ballgame. Dobias would exit the game after five strong innings of work. Overall, he surrendered two earned runs on six hits and four strikeouts.
Dobias would hand the ball to Adrian Roman in the sixth inning to close out the ballgame. Roman turned in an impressive two innings of scoreless work, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out one. Roman was credited with the save.
In total, the Southeast offense recorded seven runs on seven hits and seven walks. They finished the 14U NTIS with a perfect 4-0 record.
The gold medal victory by Southeast is their third as a region in the 2018 NTIS Champions Cup after Southeast also took home the gold for the 13U and 16U divisions in previous weeks' matchups.
