Projected to be an early round selection in the 2021 MLB First-Year Player Draft, Eastern Illinois University’s Trey Sweeney had one of the best overall seasons in Eastern Illinois program history. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year after ranking in the Top 50 nationally in 11 different categories during the season. He was seventh in on-base percentage, ninth in walks and 13th in RBI. He led the OVC in slugging percentage while ranking second in runs scored and third in batting average. He had 17 multi-RBI games and had a streak of 40 consecutive games reaching base safely (a streak extended to 53 games dating back to 2020).
