There is nothing crafty about left-hander Ethan Small, as he has attacked batters with a 92 mph fastball all season on his way to a 7-1 record, 1.73 ERA and 132 strikeouts. The redshirt junior ranks among the top 15 nationally in six categories: ERA (1.73), hits allowed per nine innings (4.85), strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.95), strikeouts (132), strikeouts per nine innings (15.23) and WHIP (0.78). Small has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 13 starts entering the final weekend of the regular season, and owns a 6-1 record in Southeastern Conference starts. In his 13 starts, he has struck out double-digit batters in nine of them, including six in SEC play. His 132 strikeouts are a career high and make him one of six pitchers in MSU history to post multiple 100-strikeout seasons.
