Hofstra University junior pitcher John Rooney put together an outstanding 2018 regular season. A strong candidate for Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year honors and a three-time CAA Pitcher of the Week, Rooney went 8-1 with a 1.01 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 89 innings over 12 starts. He threw three complete games and two solo shutouts, while holding opposing batters to a .157 average. He leads the CAA and ranks second in the nation in ERA. In addition, he rewrote the Hofstra record book as his ERA and strikeout total are both single season records, and his 262 career strikeouts are the most in program history.
