Sophomore left-hander Steven Gingery has been masterful on the mound for the Red Raiders in 2017, putting together a 9-1 mark in 14 starts. Over 85 1/3 innings pitched, Gingery has struck out 99 batters, allowing only 16 runs for a 1.69 ERA. He has five or more strikeouts in all 14 appearances this season, including two cases of 10 K’s, both on the road, at Oklahoma (April 1) and Kansas State (April 14). His strikeout total is the most by a Red Raiders pitcher since Chad Bettis (102) in 2010. He needs only 10 more strikeouts to crack the top-10 list for strikeouts in a single season at Texas Tech, while his ERA is on pace to make the list, currently sitting seventh all time.
