In his first season for Cal State Fullerton, Thomas Eshelman posted an 11-2 record in 14 starts and had a Big West-leading 1.63 ERA in the regular season. Over 99 2/3 innings, Eshelman struck out 71 and walked just two batters. He did not issue a walk in his first 63 1/3 innings as a collegiate pitcher. He led the nation in walks allowed per nine innings (0.18), strikeout-to-walk-ratio (35.5) and WHIP (0.76). Eshelman was named Big West Pitcher of the Week on March 4 after the 6-foot-3 right-hander tossed the first complete game of his career, holding then-No. 14 Oregon to two runs on four hits in an 8-2 Titans victory. On Feb. 15, Eshelman became the first freshman to start a season opener for the Titans since 1987.
