Mark Appel

Mark Appel finished the 2012 season as the Pac-12 leader in strikeouts with 108, and in seven starts this year, he struck out at least 10 hitters. Four of those performances came against top-10 opponents (Rice, Texas, Oregon, UCLA). Appel also exhibited great stamina this year, pitching into the seventh inning in all but one start. He was the winning pitcher in big games against No. 10 Vandy, No. 7 Texas, No. 20 ASU and No. 10 UCLA. Appel was selected No. 8 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
