Chris O'Brien has raked in the honors as the Shockers backstop. He was named the Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, first-team All-Valley at catcher, one of 13 semifinalists for the Johnny Bench Award and one of 36 semifinalists for the Dick Howser Award. O'Brien hit .412 with 49 runs, nine home runs and 63 RBIs. O'Brien finished the year on a 29-game hitting streak (fifth best in Shockers history), he hit in 55 of 65 total games, and he caught 546 2/3 of the 579 2/3 total innings on the season.
