DURHAM, N.C. - UConn sophomore pitcher Mason Feole was selected to the 2018 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team roster as announced by USA Baseball on Wednesday.
Feole becomes the third Husky in the past four seasons to earn the prestigious honor of donning the red, white and blue. UConn has had a player represent the stars and stripes the past four summers. Anthony Kay pitched during the summer of 2015 while Tim Cate became the first UConn player to spend multiple seasons with the Collegiate National team, pitching in 2016 and 2017.
The Wakefield, R.I. product has gone 9-1 with a team-low 2.50 ERA in 2018. In 93.2 innings, the lefthander has racked up 114 strikeouts, becoming the fifth UConn pitcher to hit the century mark in a single-season (Carson Cross (2015), Anthony Kay (2016), Tim Cate (2016 & 2017) and Wills Montgomerie (2017) in the past four seasons.
The sophomore achieved All-Conference first team honors for the second-consecutive season in 2018. Feole ranks in the top-5 in The American in ERA (3rd, 2.50), wins (1st, 9), innings pitched (2nd, 93.2), strikeouts (2nd, 114) and pick offs (1st, 4).
Feole joins UConn big leaguers Matt Barnes (2011), George Springer (2011), Brian Esposito (1999) and Charles Nagy (1988) on the USA CNT. Other Huskies to play or participate with Team USA include: L.J. Mazzilli, Jason Grabowski, Mike Galati, John Kelly, Peter Soteropoulos and Brian Specyalski. Former UConn head coach Andy Baylock served three stints as the USA pitching coach in 1985, 1988 and 1989.
Team USA will play Chinese Taipei (6/28-7/2) in Cary, N.C. then play Japan for a five-game stretch from July 3 through July 8 in Charlotte, N.C., Durham, N.C., Savannah, Ga., Charleston, S.C. and Macon, Ga.
